"visually stunning with extremely impressive draw distance and silky smooth framerates... The game has a really great sense of speed and movement as you find yourself bobbing over surfaces trying to make the best time, and level designs are also varied and enjoyable...the game is great fun and has kept me coming back" - TouchArcade
"What stood out to us in this game first and foremost are the stunning graphics. The environments are very beautifully rendered, and the contrails behind your skimmer serve two purposes. One is to give you an idea of the flight path of your opponents, and the other is to look really, really cool" - Slide to Play
"Its pedigree is impeccable. Created by Glenn Corpes, the legendary coder of Bullfrog and EA UK games in the 1990s, it looks great, and the accelerometer controls are a delicate combination of solid and sensitive... Like WipEout, the best levels become somewhat Zen-like" - Pocket Gamer
"Anyone who likes racing games and wants something a little different than the usual auto-racing type of game should check out Ground Effect" - cnet

Not bad but some exaggerations
First off it is a solid racer with very nice seamless graphics (32 gig touch) if you're not using an older touch or iPhone. I experience zero lag or issues with frame rate and draw distances on my my 6 month old 32 gig touch. I suspect the complaints are from folks with either an older device or an 8 gig. I don't know?
Anyway, thus game is really well made, but it's a bit bland.
The 10 "different" vehicles are all the same in all respects except paint job. So there is zero depth there.
The 3D is fir real but it is not "incredible". It's not great or mesmerizing. It is on fact harder to play in my opinion.
The tracks are cool and present a fun challenge.
It's worth a free look as is for free.
But until the vehicles are worked on to show different characteristics and body designs it is just nothing more than a pretty and technically well made game.
I would love to see a career mode, at least 20 different vehicles with varied personalities.
Some real 3D that actually is incredible would be very cool. And yes I used the proper glasses.
I've only messed with it a bit and already I love it. The graphics are superb, the controls feel good, I've just been zooming around in practice mode and I'm feeling really positive about this game. Get it quick while it's still free...
My second review: It's great! I got it free but it's well worth the current $2 price. My only complaint is the music; that's some sloppy-assed guitar playing. So I turned it off, no big deal. This is a terrific game, some of the complaints about not being able to free fly or lack of control are unfounded, it requires practce. Still saying 5 stars.
My third review: Stopped playing for a while and have recently returned. This is absolutely my favorite racer. The feeling of motion is fabulous. Wish Game Center and some updates were added but it's well worth it's price. Six stars.
Very good looking, lacking in basic features
I can't complain for the price, and the graphics are definitely good. But there are some basic gameplay features that would improve this game significantly and until it has them, it won't get more stars from me. First the game needs to actually start like a race; catching up to opponents who start the game with a lead does not make it feel like a race, more like a time trial. I suspect this is to cover up some deficiencies in AI, but it really should be improved. Second, there should be collision detection with opponents. Third, the choice of plane should have some effect on the performance; choosing a different color is fine, but being able to choose a plane with more boost at the cost of losing handling would add a strategic element to the game. Finally, a HUD map would help. Overall a fine effort and I am looking forward to improvements.
