Ratings and Reviews
I like this app quite a lot so far. I'm only on lesson 9 but I definitely feel like I'm steadily learning, and my Hebrew-speaking boyfriend has been impressed by my progress. Maybe he's just easily impressed. Anyway... I really like the way it teaches you words using pictures, and reinforces the ideas in your head. It feels very natural and intuitive.
However, it's got it's flaws, like others have said-- occasionally the written words don't match up with what's being said aloud, so you have to stay alert! Also, sometimes the meaning of the pictures can initially be a little ambiguous, but I find that continuing with the lesson typically clears up any confusion. You also must expect to repeat lessons several times before you'll "know" them, even if you get all the answers right on your first try. It can be time consuming. Still, it's worth it. It makes me feel like I'm learning, and that's a great motivator to keep at it.
What do I think could improve this app? Some feature to help you learn the alphabet, and maybe a dictionary to help you learn common conversational phrases that are hard to teach visually. I am currently using a separate app with these features to supplement my education.
Oh, a note-- i haven't used the writing feature. I tried once, got frustrated because I didn't have the proper keyboard loaded (I guess?) and it was making rude noises at me, so I closed it, and promptly forgot it existed... Heh.
Very helpful, but...
I like the app very much, but I think it would be very helpful to have the corresponding dictionary with English translations and Hebrew pronunciation. It would make it easier to use the app and is especialIy necessary for words that I cannot find in my dictionary. I also think recording one's voice to allow review of pronunciation and playing it back with the correct pronunciation would be very helpful. In addition, basic instructions, suggestions for use, and making access to the list of lesson components available as an option from the home screen, would all be useful. Lastly, I would like to see days 31-60.
Great App, makes you think!
This is a great app for learning a language. Someone complained there is no English translation, but that is a design feature not a flaw. It makes your Brain think about the application of the word without having a preconceived concept of the word. Words usually do not have an exact translation of meaning and application from one language to the next. I feel this approach causes your brain to retain the language. It is a time commitment, but thats what it takes to learn a language.
