This is what my company pays thousands of dollars a month for?
You get a badge notification but once you open the app you have absolutely no way of knowing who tried to contact you. This is a very basic functionality that they utterly fail at.
Also, you can't change your availability status from the app?! Only from desktop or browser. So if you forgot to change your status when you step away from your computer all your colleagues have a mistaken understanding of your actual availability, leading to misunderstandings and lost productivity.
These are just two issues that drive me crazy.
The purpose of this app is communication, collaboration, and productivity, and this app fails at all those objectives. I don't even think it even improves on the 30-year old text message.
i primarily use hipchat for Mac, and this is a complement to that, and does a pretty great job of helping me stay connected with my co-workers when I'm working out of pocket. it can be a little sluggish to load text, but there is a lot to load, so i forgive them that.
generally, strongly recommend hipchat as a inter-office communication tool, if for some reason you can't use slack.
You should just use slack.
We run the onsite server instance on aws, works ok ish on desktop. But the iPhone and iPad apps do not work at all. Messages display in notifications area but once you open the app you can't see any notifications like +3 to understand were the discussions are happening and from who. In fact mine doesnt even display the messages any more, just hangs on opening the room.
