Description

The perfect app to teach your kids about money through completing chores and working towards goals.

Don’t listen to us, listen to those that fell in love with it.

“I love that the Homey not only encourages kids to develop a strong work ethic, but it teaches kids how money is earned, encourages long-term goal setting, instills real life financial skills, and connects the whole family with a fun approach to paid chores.” Crystal, MoneySavingMom

“Homey is a great organizational tool for families!” Best Apps for Kids

“Homey helps remind my children what jobs they haven’t done yet, so I don’t need to. It even inspires them to work a little harder to earn allowance. Better yet, they are learning to save up that allowance for a bigger reward.” Gloria, JugglingMother

“A picture says a thousand words. And with Homey, those words are “this is the chore you’re supposed to be doing right now.” Snap a photo of your kid’s unmade bed and send it to them with a deadline, and then they can send a photo back once it’s taken care of.” Fatherly

SHOW KIDS HOW MONEY IS EARNED
With Homey you can pay kids commissions based on chores they do around the house like taking out the trash, cleaning their room, or mowing the grass. And you can also set responsibilities that are required to teach kids that everyone needs to contribute to the household.

SUPPORT LONG-TERM GOALS AND SAVING
Teach kids delayed gratification and financial responsibility by providing them with incentives that differ in value. With Homey kids learn they need to work longer or harder to earn more.

TEACH REAL LIFE FINANCIAL SKILLS
Homey enables you to transfer allowance and money kids earn directly to their savings or checking account or tracks the money as IOU and pay it out in cash. This way you can teach your child how banking works, they can accumulate interests on their savings and you can be sure that their money will stay safe.

Concept

1947--70

The concept is awesome, but I’m going to have to keep plodding along without it. Some people can afford this program yearly, others only monthly, but then there are those of us that cannot afford either. Time can be rough these days, especially when you’re on a fixed income and your grand daughter just moved back in and brought her husband. We already had her daughter, who is 6 since her first Birthday. This is not a putty story, it’s just fact. I just wanted to tell you how great your program sounds and it is ashamed that it can’t be offered to those less privileged. Keep working on the program, you have a great thing going, just don’t tinker with it so much that it takes a PHD to understand how to use it for its best benefit. Thank you for your time and know that you are blessed with a mind few people have — organization. Have. Beautiful, happy, and peaceful life.

Developer Response

Hey there, thanks for reaching out! Our price point is mostly influenced by the bank connections feature, which is quite expensive for us, since we're working with banking partners for account verification and money transfers. However, we do believe the app helps kids learn financial responsibility and work ethics, and we hope to give as many kids as possible access to that. Please email us to feedback@homeyapp.net :)

Neat features but too many problems

MyApps7365

I am using the free version and it doesn’t appear ready for prime time. Share menu button crashes app every time. It allowed me to create a savings jar for one child, but each time I add money, it goes back to 0. No error message or other notification. It would not let me create a jar for a second child. Fill out the entries in the menu, but the “create” button fails...again with no notification or instructions. It also has an unexplained “expiration time” entry that always stays blank. Overall just unusable in current state.

It’s too bad because the feature set is pretty cool. I like the chores based allowance plus jobs for extra. I would also like a points option. Not willing to pay 50/yr for something this unfinished. Moving on with the search for a chores app...

Developer Response

Hi there, we're sorry you feel that way but thanks for the feedback all the same. It sounds like the child's wallet is empty and this is why no money can be put into the jar. They can either earn money through allowance and commissions and it gets added to their wallet, or you can add money to their wallet with a "boost". You'll find the boost button on the right side of the wallet amount (all the way down, where you see the available funds). Expiration time on the jar is just that..if the jar is not filled in time, it expires, and all the money goes back to the wallet (useful if the kids are saving for buying things on a planned trip - if they don't save the money before the trip, they won't be able to but things on the trip). We're not sure why you weren't able to create a jar for a second child. We just tested this and it worked for us, but we'll look into it. We'd also be happy to look into the crash, but because it doesn't happen on any of our devices, we'd really appreciate your device and iOS version info.
If you don't find a perfect app, we'd be thrilled if you check Homey again. We usually update the app weekly, and we work closely with our users to make sure the app is always improving. You can always reach us through the feedback button in the app or on feedback@homeyapp.net

Best,

Needs Work but Great Great App

S. Maxime

It's really a great app, great concept, but may have a couple of bugs with the Jobs section not appearing on the others' lists. Cloning and/or duplicating a Responsibility got a little hairy because their titles can be the same and they don't move when reassigned after duplication.
More can be done with regards to the commenting on chores to notify and thereafter find the comments.
So far it's been worth the subscription, things are getting done.
I would suggest allowing links to be clicked and videos on Jobs. One Job listed was QB mechanics for my son and it would have been great if he could click the link to watch video of the did beforehand or watch it in the app.

Developer Response

Thanks for your feedback! I believe we chatted over email on how to get the jobs to show up (filter, make sure you have correct users selected, and select due date "any"), but I've noted your request for clickable links/videos, and put it on our list of features to develop. Great idea, that can make descriptions and comments on chores even more valuable! If there's anything else we can help with, let us know.
