Super fun, even after months!

I love it! The game is just as advertised, maybe even better! It's great decorating our gardens, everything matches and it ends up so beautiful! Different areas have clearly different themes, but they still fit the overall garden. The gameplay is really fun, although hard levels are annoying... But now that they properly call them Hard Levels and we get double the reward, I don't mind anymore! The greatest thing about this game is that the events actually HELP you progress the story. Soooo many games have events as a separate thing, or even something you do instead of progressing the story, but Gardenscapes actually found the perfect recipe for events! 😮 I've been playing this since last year, and even if I stop for some time I always come back to Gardenscapes. There's something really magic in decorating everything you can see on the screen! Austin is actually very interesting, I really didn't expect to end up liking him. The other day my mom asked me what the game was about, and I said "we're renovating the garden" and she asked if it was multiplayer... I had to say that no, it isn't, I just forgot Austin isn't real for a second! 😂 The most amazing thing is how I never see the same line being spoken twice by Austin. You would have thought there was a limit to his lines, but I still haven't found it! The other characters are really great and I love the Newsfeed part of the game, it's like a Facebook inside Gardenscapes!

Still fun months later

I’ve played well over 600 levels and I still enjoy the game. Yes, it’s a freemium game, so it asks you for money sometimes. But nowhere near the level of other games I’ve played and, honestly, the exchange rate it pretty sweet. There are also sales every 2 or 3 weeks and so every 2-3 weeks I’ll spend like $5-$10, which is pretty nice for a freemium game.

The story building is cool. Because each level gets you a star, and you use them to work on the garden, story-line stuff can get triggered just from finishing certain levels. You don’t feel as much like you’re paying for story-line (even though you are). One thing I really appreciate is that it doesn’t have 15 different side-quest-like things going on, when you just want to enjoy the sweet little story that they have going. My garden is adorable, my dog runs around and plays, and I can change it any time I like. It’s relaxing.

Mechanics-wise: There’s weekend events that are pretty easy to accomplish. The game also adds a new game mechanic every 25 levels or so. So you once you feel like a bamf in one mechanic, it adds something to make the game challenging again. It’ll also combines mechanics to make for some interesting levels, but it does’t really use too many at once either (which I appreciate). One piece of advice I’d give is to hoard your boosts (and the gold you can use to buy them) like miser and only use them for the hard levels. ;) It makes life much easier.

Fun, but aggravatingly slow and expensive!

I would give this game 5 stars if the garden building went faster and the rewards for beating levels were higher. You really need more patience than you ever thought was possible and the one or two star rewards for beating levels is way too low! The 900 coins for 5 extra moves is just rediculous! The more patient you are, the less you will spend. At first I thought the cost of this game would be little to nothing, but don’t be deceived like I was. If you are extremely patient, you can maybe get through the first 300 or so levels for little to nothing, though some levels seem to take forever to beat. The timed levels and hard levels require explosives, so save up as many as you can get from special events and competitions, and learn how to generate as many as possible while playing. But don’t expect to get first place if you are playing for free. The garden building goes at such a frustratingly slow pace. Eventually I lost my patience and began buying coins, rainbow blasts and dynamite, which dramatically speeded things up, but it has been way more costly than I imagined. By then I was too addicted to stop. Don’t waste your money on bombs which mostly are not necessary. Use the first 300 levels to learn as many tips and tricks as you can before the levels get much harder and require lots of expensive explosives and coins. Hundreds of dollars worth!
