Fun game at your own pace

I fell in love with RTK when it come out for Nintendo in the 80’s so when I saw it available on my phone, I jumped right in. I’ve been playing for about 4 months and there are several things that I like about the game. First, you can play at your own pace without having your kingdom completely destroyed by other players. I typically try to take over a region within a few hours, put on a “no attack” defense for a few days, which prevents others from attacking you but also prevents you from attacking. Then I take my time and build up the newly acquired cities. Every so often I’ll lose a city but I can usually take it right back. Another thing I like is the story mode and quests. They are actually decently written, fun to play, and give the opportunity to level-up your generals. The battles are really fun to play with some challenging fights thrown in there but most are won easily. I also like the variety of weapons and artifacts that make a big difference on the game. There are a few things that I wish were part of the game like he old version such as your generals’ loyalty, natural disasters, and a little more governing in terms of diplomacy with AI. Overall, the game is entertaining and fun to play, not stressful. At my current pace, it’ll probably take another year for me to unite the kingdom, which is fine with me for a free game. Oh yeah, I don’t do in-app purchases.

It is a good game

If you have the time to dedicate to this game (it will take you months or years) it will be an epic RPG saga you will likely not want to put down. The battle sequences remind me of the old Fantasy Kommander games which I thoroughly enjoyed playing and continue to enjoy every now and again. For those that prefer character development there is plenty to achieve there and kingdom builders will be pleased that you not only have 1 primary, but also a myriad other cities to develop and prosper from. The story mode is deep and lengthy at times, but worth the extra few minutes if you have them to spare. I never got to the multi-player aspect of the game bc I knew I would not be able to put it down if I had gone any further with it than I had. Finally, for those that couldn’t get it to load and connect it is probably because you didn’t have the additional 800M required to install all of the games content beyond the initial 246M. Yes, you will need 1.1G of free space to run this game optimally. Possibly more as I didn’t get very far before deciding to delete it. I just thought it deserved a fair review. Don’t let all the 1 star reviews deter you. It is a quality gaming experience that will not let you down.

The annihilation ai is broken garbage.

Once you’ve conquered the. Map, there’s very little to do but grind receptive quests. What should be the fun part of is the pvp system. Although it’s run against an ai and not live play, it’s using a player’s team. The system is broken and not fun. If you have an evenly matched team with similar level characters and gear, your team will have statistically improbable misses never getting that last bit of damage to kill an opponent. But don’t worry! You’re about to be one-shotted by their underpowered garbage! And the nice thing is, it doesn’t matter what the commander march up is! They’ll hit crit almost every time and wipe out your side with 0 effort.

There’s not in between. If you’re lucky enough to get matched with a way underpowered team, you can crush them easily for a tiny hit of boredom slackening adrenaline, but if you get any team that’s marginally close to yours, you will be crushed. It’s telling how broken the system is when you’ve lost 60% of your fights yet are still in the top 16% of players.

It’s a shame that a fun game is just ground down by a crappy, unfair, and increasingly not fun end game experience.

Don’t waste the months playing this game and building your commanders, it’ll just lead to frustration.
