Triplets is a strategy game. Though the rules are quite simple, the game itself is actually rather challenging!

You take turns playing against the computer, placing pieces onto the board one at a time. To win, you have to be the first to get three in a row, either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

The board can be changed in size from 4x4 to 8x8. Additionally, you can indicate if the computer should go first, varying game play.

This game was originally proposed by Stanislaw Ulam, a Polish-American mathematician.

Customer Reviews

I applaud you for your efforts developer. Thanks for taking the time and effort to think up this clever iPhone game for us, but it does have some conceptual issues in the idea of the game itself. Once you get 5-10 pieces down, there are already a small selection of spaces left to play on, making the game all about luck and capitalizing on small, obvious errors.

I think one way to avoid this is too add a mode where you and your opponent use different colors, and maybe make another board that's even bigger.

Also, a two player mode would also be awesome. Maybe even in the future, online multiplayer??

And if you want to get even more picky, you could improve the UI by adding a start-up screen and better graphics.

Overall though, this app is a great start and I think it has a lot of potential. Thanks for all of your time!

Fun, short time-waster

Simple concept: connect three dots and you win. The trick is placing the dots in specific areas that will force the opponent to make the move that lets you win. It's a nice short time-waster for when commercials interrupt your show, for example. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because there's an annoying little bug where sometimes the computer will skip its turn near the end, resulting in you losing... Once this is fixed, I won't have a problem rating it the full 5 stars for what it is. Perhaps we can see a multiplayer option in a future update?

Good game if it didn't cheat

I've enjoyed playing this game and have found it challenging and tough to win. But I was surprised to find that the game occasionally (but not always) cheats just when it's about to lose. At first I thought it was my imagination and that I hadn't noticed where the program had made its move, but careful counting convinced me that the game will sometimes skip its turn and tell you that it is now your turn after you had just played (and always when there is no safe place left to make a move). Nobody likes to lose, but one expects the game to play fair.
