PopMath is a fun game for kids of all ages to practice basic math.
Pairs of bubbles float on the screen and your goal is to pop each pair. For example, one bubble says "7" and another says "3+4". Simply touch one bubble and then the other to pop them both.
At any time, you can choose different operators: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Once you've popped all pairs on a level, you see your time for that level and can move on to the next level, or keep practicing that level.
New levels increase the numbers shown in the bubbles, up to 1000 for addition/subtraction and 20 for multiplication/division.
PopMath rewards your child with fun sounds and end-of-level animations to make the experience fun.
Yet it provides a non stressing experience: the time is shown after each level, but you don't loose. Just finish at your own pace. A personal message encourages you based on your time.
The last level is saved so you can start again at that level if you want, or simply "Go to Level 1" again.
What's New in Version 1.7
- after much demand, we added a new option to practice a specific table, from 2 to 12
- also, the game now makes sure there are no duplicate answers in bubbles!
- nicer audio icon
- 3.0 tested
I'll give this a five star if... (Update: no "if" anymore! :)
UPDATE: Now allows to start with other calculation types. Therefore I'll give it five! .... there would be settings that allow you to start with something other than addition, or maybe let you start at a higher level. There don't seem to be any settings whatsoever. Or did I miss something? I wanted to practice the multiplication tables with my 9-year old daughter and that's hard to do with this right now because you first have to go through a lot of levels to get there. It'd be great to limit it to a specific calculation type and being able to save the level you reached would be cool too. Other than that this app is very helpful and fun and a good way for kids to mess around with the iPhone! Keep the good work up and updates coming!
It's ok, BUT........
Pro: Good way for (honest) children to work on math facts.
CONS: Kids WILL get bored with it very
quickly as there is absolutely zero deviation from level to level.
AND they will soon figure out they can cheat. Since stats are not kept, they can (will eventually) tap the problem they want to solve, then tap an answer without putting any thought into it whatsoever. If they're wrong, there's no penalty or way of tracking it for parents. The balloons (bubbles?) simply don't disappear and they can just absentmindedly try a different answer real quick...
Improvements must be made for this to become a legitimate educational app.
We have had this app for a while and are now reducing the apps we have, this one does provide limited entertainment value with the popping sounds and the latest updates. Looks great, K.I.S.S. but interaction as well as interface innovation are limited.
1 for Entertainment Value
1 for Math Content
1 Simple and Clean Interface
0 for innovation in both features and interface
0 doesn't keep my kid's attention
Great effort and wish you Laurent the best in your development efforts.
