Primrose is a captivating tile-clearing puzzle game by award-winning independent designer Jason Rohrer.

Primrose's gameplay is deceptively simple: You're given random pairs of colored tiles that you must place on a 7x7 grid. When you surround a group of one color with another color, the surrounded group clears, scoring points. The surrounding tiles flip to the color of the tiles that were cleared. When tiles flip color, chain reactions are possible. Larger groups and longer chain reactions are awarded more points.
As the game progresses, more colors are added to the pool, making the grid more and more constrained. Pressure builds until the grid finally fills up, and the game ends.
Despite this mounting pressure, the game doesn't have a frantic feel, because you have as much time as you want to make each move. Whereas games like Tetris depend on getting faster and faster to be challenging, Primrose derives deep challenge from inherent properties of its mechanics.
But comparisons with Tetris aren't very helpful, because Primrose does not have you dropping tiles down a well. Primrose also doesn't have you swapping adjacent tiles like so many match-3 games. So what comparison is useful? Primrose is a small bit like Go and Othello (if either of those were one-player games), a small bit like Lights Out, and a big bit like nothing you've every played before.

WoW what a great game.
I love a good puzzle game its my most searched section in games. I have tried the developers pc games in the past. The game can be tough. It takes alot of understanding and planning to really rack up the score. It doesnt seem the game has been updated in a while and I see people talked about the all grey tile issue. I have experienced it a few times but it seems to me you can only have so many colors on the grid and must make them disappear to have more choices. I could be wrong but its somthing along those lines. It has nothing to to with points because 8000 points like one reviewer said is pretty pathetic attempt. plan right and you should chain around 200k points on your first clear. I also like the fact that the developer never has dropped the price. He is a independent one person company that needs to support his family. I respect his morals on that issue. If there ever was an update I would like to see a different color scheme and a personal high score of all time or something. This game can truly take an hour away from you so easily.
Best of its kind
I'm surprised people are complaining about price. Having played Jason's other games, I would be willing to pay $5, maybe more, for others.
Looking forward to the time I'm good enough to complain about the all-gray tiles. Although it seems to be in perfect congruence with Jason's style: the end is inevitable, make the best of what you have.
great gameplay, no local high scores
SO disappointed that there are no local high scores stored on your device. the gameplay absolutely is there but I can't bring myself to go on when my list of achievements wont be tracked. *sigh* back to Drop7
add local high scores and fix that supposed all-gray tile problem (which I have not come across) and your rating shoots up to 5 stars
