Horrible port, unplayable controls
Read the reviews with control issues, but decided to give it a shot anyway. Best believe, the controls are horrid, but the port is worse. Amazingly, this 10 year old arcade game still runs incredibly choppily, far too much so to smoothly aim at moving enemies while zoomed in. Also, in the Harrier mission, the cockpit glas is now opaque, so you can't see the occupants to aim for a headshot (wouldn't matter, its almost impossible to keep the cursor over the aircraft as the framerate stutters along). What the iphone can't match a 1998 arcade board? To add insult to injury, the best angle to line up on the jet is also the point in which the sequence loops, and the game automatically drops you out of zoom mode just as you line up. This is an unforgiveable bug, but just an example of how the rest of the game is equally unplayable.
I loved the original, and I'm not an arcade purist, but this is just inexcusably horrible for any price other than free.
Now we have better hardware (3g 4g) control, frame speed, all of the other problems are solved. Probably the best sniping game on the appstore. Has great arcade style. In my opinion, it's better than time strike-it's cheaper an has same quality.
Control is simple. Slide to aim, double tap to zoom, and tap to shoot. Or, change your control in option and just double tap the place and zoom into there. No problem at all.
Unless you really hate arcade game, you should consider pick this one up. Must have for snipin' fan.
I've lost count of how much money I've spent on this game in the arcades. For years it was the one game I would play every time I found myself at Dave & Busters. The problem with this game on the iPhone is all in the controls. The game in all other aspects stays true to the arcade version, but the zoom in and slow panning of the scope just destroys all chances of this being playable. After the first round, trying to headhot the guy in the Harrier in the arcade isn't too difficult, but doing it on the iPhone is nothing short of a nightmare... and it doesn't get any better through the rest of the game. Arcade version = fun. iPhone version = frustration.
