****IF YOU WANT TO FIGURE OUT THIS ESCAPE ON YOUR OWN DO NOT LOOK INTO REVIEWS DEEPLY. MANY REVIEWERS ARE NOW GIVING AWAY THE ANSWERS TO THE PUZZLES TO ESCAPE. IF YOU HAVE ALREADY POSTED A SPOILER IN A REVIEW PLEASE REMOVE IT, SO THAT FUTURE PLAYERS CAN LOOK THROUGH REVIEWS WITHOUT HAVING THE GAME RUINED FOR THEM.****
In Room Escape you find yourself stuck in a room, you must figure out how to escape by finding different object and solving different puzzles.
Navigation in Room Escape is handled in touches and swipes. You can touch many objects to gain information, some useful to escape, some not. Some objects when touched will take you to a zoomed in view of the object. If you are zoomed in on an item in the room and want to see the entire wall again, swipe up. To switch which wall you are looking at swipe left or right. At times swipes down can be used as well. To view your inventory at any time tap the screen with two fingers or press the inventory button. To remove the inventory view tap with two fingers again or press the inventory button.
There are 6 items that can be found and added to your inventory in the game. When you find them, touch them. You will pick them up and place them in your inventory. Some items are just used to explain a solution, others are needed to be used to open items.
Once you find items, if they can be used on object in the room, you will be able to touch them in the inventory room and a border will be placed around them. When the border is placed around an item it is currently being used. More then one item can be used at a time. To unuse an item simple tap on the item again, the border will be removed. Selected items remain selected while in the room. When you re-enter the inventory all selected items become unselected.
What's New in Version 1.1
Tweaked swipe detection
I'd happily pay good money for a room/environment search-type game (if I remember correctly, they were made by something called WorldBuilder, or some similar name), especially if the results could be randomized. I actually miss similar Mac games from the 80s as I love to explore & strategize, as opposed to fast arcade-action style games.
Sadly, this game didn't even come close to the sophistication of those old 80s games. The game was slow to respond to any actions, and wouldn't even go beyond 2-3 areas to (hopefully) explore — but even if you could go somewhere, you still couldn't enable any real action.
Part of the clumsiness was probably due to the ads — but I think it would STILL have been clumsy without the ads.
Yes, it was free and I got what I paid for. OTOH, I've enjoyed numerous free Apps, that were as good or better than some of the Apps I've purchased — so it is possible to get top-quality without spending $0.99. Also, recall that I did state that I'd happily pay good money for a well-executed similar game (especially if it had a sci-fi theme).
I'm disappointed — but I'm glad I didn't have to pay for the "privilege"...
Not what most people expected.
First off its a free app so what do you expect. Secondly, there is no instructions to manuever, the only one that is obvious is click to get an item. Thirdly, graphics may be the worst I have seen, I have never seen an octagonal hammer. Fourthly, its to short. Fifthly, there are to many bugs that need to be fixed.
Great concept (though an old one) but poor execution. Taps are sluggish, swiping left/right is either non responsive or keeps taking you to the wrong wall (i swiped left 3 times and ended at the same wall, in a 4 sided room....). Ads cover the inventory making it useless unless you catch it at the right time between ads.
Sad because it could be such a great game with proper execution and adfitional rooms...
Thought the whole point of apple store was so that crap like this got weeded out from hitting the marketplace.
