Cherokee Checkers is different than most games! Download it now and enjoy an ancient challenge. Passed down through the generations this family favorite is sure to hook you with its simple fun. Each game takes only a few minutes, the hardest part is putting it down!
The two players in Cherokee Checkers are known as "Same" and "Different". Players don't own or control the red or yellow pieces - each player can move either color!
You can play against your iPhone or against a friend in hot seat mode. The AI is adjustable too, up the level as you get better for more of a challenge. You can let your iPhone play either side or have it choose a side randomly.
Players score by jumping pieces. The "Same" player scores by jumping pieces of the same color (red jumping red or yellow jumping yellow). The "Different" player scores by jumping different colors (red jumping yellow or yellow jumping red).
The first player to jump 13 pieces wins!
But that's not all! A few twists make things more interesting. Download the game and you too can learn the secrets of Cherokee Checkers.
This game has a long and storied history, passed down through our family by my grandfather.
One of my favorite stories that my grandfather told, and the one I want to share with you today, was about his mother, my great grandmother, who was Cherokee. He loved to tell us about his memories of her, such as sitting at her feet, watching her combing out her long black hair.
He also told us about a game she had played as a girl, the original name of which he couldn't remember, but which he had taken to calling Cherokee Checkers.
It was a favorite of hers, one that she taught him how to play and he taught me. The game was originally played using dried corn kernels, half light yellow and half the darker red kernels, on a flat stone with a chalk board drawn on it, complete with little painted squares.
He had hours of fun playing with her as a child, and he taught the game to my father, and to me and my brothers as well.
Now I've decided to share it with all of you and I sincerely hope that you enjoy it as much as my family has!
A lot of fun
This game is a lot of fun. Very addictive.
Not just another "me too" game!
This is a simple yet delightful game that I haven't seen anywhere else. The developer has taken what is apparently an ancient Native American game played with corn kernels and put it on the newest electronics. I've only beaten it once on a moderate AI setting out of a couple of dozen tries, so I haven't come close to mastering it. The challenge of it, the challenge of it! I highly recommend it if you are tired of 30 ways to play Sudoku and an equal number of ways to play Lines.
I really enjoyed this game. It was simple to learn, but still challenging, especially since you can change the ability of the A.I. as you improve. Five stars!
