German for Kids

Are you looking for a fun, effective way to share the German language with your child?
Wouldn’t it be great to give them a head start hearing and speaking German, while their growing brains are literally “language learning machines”?
How great would it be if you could use the power of the computer and attraction of a video game to open your child’s mind to hundreds of German words?
“The best learning feels more like play than work”
My name is Sandy, and I grew up in Berlin. When I moved to the US, I made friends with lots of German speakers with small children. They often talked about how sad they were that their kids weren’t learning German. They couldn’t share the stories and the songs of their own youth with their children.
Some of them tried to spend time speaking German with their youngsters, but didn’t always have the time, and weren’t sure how to introduce a second language. They tried some computer-based language learning programs, but soon realized that they worked great for readers, but not for kids who couldn’t yet follow written instructions.
My husband Steve is a computer programmer and Internet expert. When I asked him if he knew of any good German-language programs for kids, he did a search and came up empty. That’s when he got this look in his eyes (if you’ve ever lived with a programmer, you know exactly what I’m talking about), and said, “Why don’t we make one ourselves?”
We researched the most effective language programs in the market — and modeled the best features of each.
Steve also is a big fan of video games, so he understands how to make an activity fun, engaging and challenging. Together, we started experimenting. I recorded the audio (we definitely wanted kids to learn from a native German speaker), Steve found simple and cheerful pictures, and wrote a simple yet powerful iPhone application that we call “German For Kids.”
My friends immediately loved it, and encouraged us to make it available to German-speaking parents everywhere. (OK, and non-German-speaking parents who want their kids to learn German too.)

You can play along with your child, but you don’t have to. The program is so clear and intuitive, they’ll be happily learning German on their own in seconds. And don’t be surprised when they start trying to teach you to say, “The giraffe has a long neck” in German!

SImple and fun learning game for young children learning german
There are not a lot of bells and whistles- fine by me! The game features word groups with cute graphics. There is word pronunciation as it shows the spelling of the word and also uses the word in a sentence. When they finish each word group there is cheering and fun star graphics. My five year old daughter engages by saying the word after she hears it and there is also a part when they select the picture to match the word they hear. There is a quiz level that we haven't tried yet, but so far my daughter likes it very much. Would like to see content that included greetings and phrases such as please, thank you, hello, my name is, good morning, good night, etc.
A little short on content
Cute graphics and user friendly. Includes the articles, which a lot of apps don't, so that's a ++
But after the animals and clothing, that's it. A shame bc more content would have led me to give it 5 stars
Won't load properly
The app seems like it would be good for my five year old, but won't load properly. Only half of the screen shows when the phone is held vertically and if I turn the phone horizontally the game does not turn. Disappointed. If there is a fix please let me know. Otherwise it's a waste of money.
