Get it while it's on sale for $1! In my opinion, one of the best time management games with a few twists of its own. I personally might have liked it a bit more than Cooking Dash because of the different style. The medieval style music is great and the later levels can get challenging but still a ton of fun. You play as Miriel and as the levels progress, you can carry more items at the same time and choose new foods to sell at your store. Later in the game, some of the foods take longer to make since you have to combine items in the oven more than once. It would be nice to have more pre-made combo items but that's just me. I think it takes a minimum of 5 hours to beat (but the time counter might be skewed on mine). And that's if you get Master on each level on the first try.
Unlike Cooking Dash, you can't go back and replay the previous levels until you've played all of them. The real receipes are an interesting idea. It would be nice if there were more story elements (or more of a story in general) and I didn't even know how the responses affected anything until I read the app description. But in the grand scheme of things, the gameplay is great and anyone into time management games should totally buy this!
A Time Management BEST!
I thought I'd never see the day that a time management game compared to Sally's Spa, but with Miriel the Magical Merchant, GameHouse truly delivered. The graphics and sound/music are perfect; the tutorials are well-written. I've not experienced any bugs, no unusual battery drain, or anything bad actually. It's nice to play a game that has clearly been tested through-and-through before being released.
I'm on the 5th town now and so far, here's the gist of the game... Miriel owns a shop, selling goods to townspeople. Sometimes you just sell them something like eggs and other times you have to combine ingredients and bake them in the oven (example: milk + milk = cheese). As you progress throughout the game, you earn new products. Each time you advance to a new town, you play a mini-game to earn upgrades for your store (faster baking oven, faster regenerating specialty products, etc.).
One of the neatest things about this game: you're given actual recipes to make the items that you cook in the oven. So far I've gotten recipes to make Miriel's bread, farmer's cheese, apple jam, farmhand's omelet, warm cheese sandwich and strawberry jam. There are 13 more recipes I've yet to unlock.
All in all, GameHouse has given us an amazing game here and if you're a fan of time management games, you will not be disappointed in this one. Absolutely, hands-down, one of my favorite purchases ever.
I'm totally addicted. This game is very well executed. The graphics are stunning and the game play is flawless. Definitely gets challenging, but not confusing in the least bit. Adding a mini game into a time management game was genius. I like that you actually have to "work" to earn your upgrades! Very cool! Great job guys, I bought this for .99 and I would definitely have paid more. Just one question, how do I access my unlocked recipes? I didn't write any of them down and would like to try them out to add to my review! Thanks!
Update: Thanks to another reviewer for answering my question about the recipes. I did that before, but I thought it was only the recipes for the game play. You have to click on the little chef hat next to that. This is probably something that could be fixed in an update to make it more obvious though.
