Big City Let Down
This game series, including Big City New York, is a prime example of a great idea that was deployed TERRIBLY!! I will not even address the fact that my game froze up completely when I went in to leave a rating while playing Big City NY. I had to delete that game, and that is why I am leaving feedback for both games here through the San Fransisco version. what is so wrong? Well, the game takes you to 60 sites throughout the city, and while at each one it gives you some pretty cool facts. To go between the different sites you have to solve a mini puzzle and find some hidden objects. Initially it plays great until the 4th site, that is when you start to realize that there are only like 4 mini puzzles and all they do is repeat..BORING!! THEN, after you have visited about 25 or 30 sites around town, THEY start to repeat using the same hidden object layout, though you do get to look for a few different items if you are lucky. The game is very deceptive. This game scenario could be outstanding if they designers were not so cheap and lazy. Surely there are 60 different sites to see around any city all with interesting facts. I KNOW that there are more than 4 mini puzzles to choose from. Bottom line, only buy this if on sale. If they made the improvements I suggested it would easily be worth a respectable price. Just a great idea poorly executed.
It's just ok
I thought this would be similar to the PC version, but it's been scaled back to where you only have three mini games, and you can only be the brother or sister as your avatar. To it's credit though, it has remained faithful to the hidden object portion of it. I would have much liked to have seen a complete rendition of the game as played on the PC. I really don't like the ads on the main screen touting the other games available and there is the "Test Advertisement" banner that appears in-between screens that is annoying. I have not had any problems with the mini games as others have said on here, and you CAN set it in non-timed mode by going to the options menu and selecting "Relaxed Mode". It's too bad they couldn't have updated and enhanced the game a bit instead of "dumbing it down".
Good, but frustrating
The problems are two as I see it. First and foremost: The relaxed form keeps giving me time coins-- at least two every round and (possibly in connection) very few hint coins. This has led to punching randomly until the things I'm searching for are accidentally found. The second thing may be answered later: I was promised "surprises" when I clicked on the icons after earning them. Surprise! An icon or a question mark pops up. Wow. I'm underwhelmed. The places so far are good--I live just outside San Francisco. I was looking forward to the iPad San Francisco version. At this point, the time coins/hint coins problem keeps me from giving higher than a three.
