Old school fun with some old school frustrations
The game is similar to that old NES game that started it all, for me at least. They have improved it in some key areas: there is a mid level herb to bridge the gap between the two healing spells, and both healing spells are more useful in my opinion. There are more weapons and discoveries to be made than inDW1. You get to choose your own soundtrack for the different parts of the game which is also cool. However there are a few things that could stand to be updated PLEASE: the torch item and the torch spell should each be twice as bright. You spend a lot of time in caves and this is annoying. The encounter rate is crazy, about 3-4 times too high I think. They could just cut in half IF the return spell would let you teleport between towns and not just to the castle. The item menu needs to be larger OR have a separate menu for quest items. Tip of the day:do not drop the magma staff to make room! Finally, why is there only ONE place to sell items? This is particularly annoying in combined with the tiny item storage you get.
This game attempts to recreate a classic and it does so in perfect fashion. The world and enemies are colorful and cartoonish, and though the english doesn't always flow perfectly it hardly brings down the gameplay. Combat is simple but fun, the only complaint i have is that trudging through a dark cave is very hard because of how little light torches and spells give off, but still, the game is playable even in the dark. So 5/5.
Awesome retro RPG. Two thumbs up d(^_^d)
I've never played dragon warrior so I don't know how to compare the two but this game takes me back to NES days as well with the pixel graphics and all.
Inventory could use more space and it would be cool to have chiptunes for different parts of the game but overall it is an awesome RPG.
At the end it says "to be continued", will there be a part 2?
