What's New in Version 2.27
Bug fixes and performance improvements
Overall, love this app!
I use this app daily and overall, it has been an enjoyable and enriching experience. Nothing man-made is perfect, however, and that includes Audible. Recently, for no discernible reason that I have been able to discover, my whole library disappeared overnight from my Fire tablet. Needless to say this was quite disconcerting, and I still haven't been able to restore my audiobooks to that device. Fortunately, I've been able to access my library from my phone and my computer, so it wasn't a complete disaster.
My only other negative experience has been encountering an occasional narrator of books that I would dearly love to listen to, but whose voice and/or style is enough to make me want to run screaming out of the room. Fortunately this has been much more the exception than the rule, but I have learned to (without fail) listen to a preview of whatever book I am considering purchasing in order to avoid this problem moving forward, no matter how much I may want to "read" a particular selection.
If you love to read, but can't or don't want to always have to hold a physical book in your hands, Audible is an enjoyable way to get around that minor difficulty. It has actually become my generally preferred method of book consumption!
Better and better- not perfect
This app gets better and better but it isn't perfect. The app has great features and a few clunky ones. More good ones than it used to have. They are being improved over time. All in all, I'm happy with my experience. I can return books I didn't like if they are returned within 6 months. I don't read (listen to) them that quickly. I buy faster than I listen to them. Some times I finish them and the "finished" indication doesn't stay associated with the book through app revisions. Not Cool!
The stories included in the titles are often well done but some presentations need serious rework - not many - but the choice for presenter could sometimes be improved. I've listened to a couple dozen different presenters by now ( a couple hundred books ). If those that were "flat" could be trained or replaced with more skilled people a lot of the stories would be better but, sometimes the story is the problem and that is a shame. It becomes easier to tell the difference between problems in story and presentation as you hear more of each. The short samples offered before you buy are most helpful ( at least to me ) only after my ear has become trained by listening to a goodly number of books by many presenters.
Like so many others, I've been waiting for this book. I had so many expectations including the hope that this would somehow be a balm to what was one of the most traumatic political experiences of my life. This book made me remember, made me feel, and made me understand not just what Hillary concluded after months of analysis but also understand what the experience of the 2016 election meant for me and what it means now.
The book more then met my expectations. In fact, it is no surprise that it far exceeded them. I usually read books, not listen to them. But, this was a joy. Secretary Clinton reads beautifully being at times both smooth and professional and her delivery but always authentic. While her voice remained steady and clear throughout the narration, I could feel what she felt.
This book is for anyone who lived through the 2016 U.S. presidential election, not just her supporters. In fact, that is my hope, that non-Hillary supporters will read what is a well written and well narrated book. Unfortunately, I do remain a skeptic about them reading the book, but I remain hopeful and, as the Secretary encouraged, will continue onward. Enjoy!
