I am a reader by nature, but because being an adult means having to dedicate most of my time to work, appointments, meetings, working out, family time, and an assortment of other tasks, I find I have little time to actually sit down and read a book. This has upset me in the past few years as I have become busier and busier, but with audible I can listen to the stories I liked to read while doing those busy things. I can listen to David Sedaris while at work on headphones or listen to some new thriller while making dinner.
Three reasons prevent me from giving this 5 stars. One, I have to purchase books through the actual website and can't do it on the app. An added step is not awful, but the mobile site leaves something to be desired. Two, I cannot permanently delete a title from my library. Sometimes I purchase a book, listen, and decide I will never want to listen to it again. Just would be nice to have that option. And third, is simply monthly subscription price. I get that I am awarded a credit every month to get one book which I like, but in the time of pinching pennies, I have to struggle with what I choose. I pay a steady rate for one credit and can't justify using it on a book that is less expensive than what my credit cost. I've started using OverDrive more now, simply because it is free listening with a library card, and I have enough of a list that I don't mind waiting for a book to come off of a hold.
LOVE this app!!!
I absolutely love being able to listen to a good book while doing other things! Don't get me wrong, I am still a committed bibliophile and read "real" books as often as I can, but my wish list was getting longer than time permitted. Now I am free to "read" while driving, doing dishes, laundry, taking the dog for a walk or any number of things. Any time I have at least 15 minutes, I am listening to a current or classic book. Only one complaint - while I do enjoy the membership and the free book, sometimes I want another (or three!) book(s) before the next month's credit is available. The full prices of many of these books are crazy! Would really appreciate it if you could knock it down to approx price of a paperback. I understand that there are costs associated with production but with lower prices, I feel, many many more copies of most books would be sold. Until then, I will rotate my listening between current books and "re-reading" those wonderful classics. Other than that, no issues: fast download, large selection of most modern books for which I have searched. Thanks again!
It's ok but there are some glitches
For example missing credits. I'm looking around trying to decide what to get and click back to a previous list and all of a sudden my credit is gone. Or writers who update covers and even though it's the exact same story you don't get the $1.99 price. Oh no we're going to punish you for recognizing genius first. Generally the app just delivers the book but these are a few things they should fix. Oh also love how they drop a series right in the middle. Now is it them or the author who is the bozo leaving us with nothing and a cliffhanger. They could at least tell us the rest is coming eventually or won't be because of a. b. and c. Or at least for more info and a link.
Some of these books are just so involved, the plots so entangled that there easier to listen to. For example Robert Jordan's books, complicated to say the least.
Other than that I guess Audible is okay.
My credit just disappeared and the issue is not yet solve (which I believe it will be but.....) so at the moment I am rather angry with them. Which in this case is good it reminded me of my other grievances with them so I can share them with others. I wonder who else has had these experiences? Let's chat!
