✪ Episode 1: First Contact ✪
While on a routine mission to test a number of prototype fighters destined to replace the Earth Colonial Fleet's aging Starhawk, the ECS Red Nova, your carrier, comes across an unknown alien fleet preparing to stage a sneak attack on the human colonies!
In order to give the Red Nova a chance to escape and warn the rest of the fleet you have volunteered to attack the aliens head-on. With a choice of any of the fighters on deck, you have to use your wits, your guns, and your ample supply of homing missiles to survive for as long as you can!
✪ Episode 2: Mercy ✪
The alien invasion of the human colonies has begun!
Reports are coming in that a massive alien mothership has begun an assault on the shipyards at Gamma Crucis, a mere 88 light years from Earth. It has disabled the fleet there and without your help the crew of those ships will meet an untimely end!
While the Red Nova occupies the mothership you must use your skill to pilot the Raven heavy transport against the fighter onslaught launched by the mothership. After repelling each wave of enemy ships you will have to pick up and transport the crew from their ships to the Red Nova.
"You are the front line."

Solid space shooter...
Jonesing for an EV Nova-like game on IOS, I came across a review for Red Nova and gave it a try. While it doesn't completely fill the void, as there's no exploration, trade, economy, or ship building, it does excel at action. The controls are tight and responsive in the pseudo-newtonian space environment. Defending the freighters and evacuating passengers is a lot of fun and challenging on harder settings, and while I do miss the availability of an in-game map system, once you get used to Red Nova's radar, navigating to rescue ships is quite managable. There's nothing that Red Nova does particularly wrong, however in a space game such as this it would be great to have some new add-ons that encourage exploration and non-lethal missions. Perhaps if there were to be a Red Nova 2 (hint, hint)... Overall, a solid and enjoyable shooter.
Better dual stick space shooters out there
The screen shots and description are arguably misleading. The impression is there's some sort of story based game with massive ship battles, HA!. This is a rather by the book dual stick shooter in a space setting with only two "missions". One is a simple endless survival, the other a mission to survive and rescue as many passengers as possible from a fleet of disabled capital ships while surviving a series of timed waves. That's it, the whole game.
The game gets some props for a novel control scheme that works well on the touch screen but otherwise isn't anything special.
I bought it as part of the 2011 Holiday Indie charity promotion so no regrets for the $1, but, objectively, there are better and more fun games in this same vein out there (e.g. Space Miner Blash, Alien Space, Alien Space Retro, and Super Cyclone off the top of my head).
Worth 99 cents and more!
I own the Devs PC game "Drifter" ( amazing game btw ) and love it! I then learned that he had a similar game on iOS and went and bought it. It isn't like Drifter in the open world aspect, but the control scheme and gameplay aspects are similar so it was very much a "plug-and-play" game for me! It is a very fun, easy to get the hang of game that I play whenever I'm on car rides, waiting in offices, etc. I it was well worth my money and I probably would have paid more. Hoping Drifter makes it to iOS soon!
