What's New in Version 2.2.1
- Bug fixes and security enhancements
I'm not sure why all the negative reviews. This app works great with all my Chevys. It could be specific vehicle types like others mentioned, but it could also be people didn't read the specifics. Just as a heads up, remote start only works with vehicles that have a dealership installed OEM remote start. If you don't have remote start equipped, obviously it won't work. But more importantly, if you have an aftermarket system, like viper, or roswell, then it won't work. It has to be the GM official, as the software can't just work with anything. If you don't have remote start, but you have remote start on your key fob, then check with your dealer to make sure it's official and activated. Don't blame the app if your dealer scammed you.
More importantly I'm dropping some stars because they won't add an Apple Watch app for this. It's stupid. They have the technology. It's there, but they just don't care. BMW had it, a bunch of other companies had it, now even Hyundai. Maybe I should trade in my GM for a car that can keep up with simple tech. Or at least until GM drops OnStar for a company that can keep up.
Good concept, but needs a few fixes
I love being able to remote start my Volt to pre-heat or cool the cabin.
This app logs me out several times per month due to app crashes and server problems, requiring me to login over and over. Please fix this by storing the credentials somewhere safe (perhaps on the settings page). When the app recovers from the crash, don't prompt me for another login, just use the cached credentials instead.
Please add Touch ID support for Apple devices, to be used as the app login, and in place of a pin number when remote starting the car. I just saw a TV ad that Volvo is using that already.
When the car has been remote started, start a countdown timer on the app showing how many minutes it will be before the car is shut down automatically, or at least show a status on the app of whether the car is running or not. Also, if the car is capable, have the app display the temperature inside the car and outside.
An older version of the app from roughly a year ago used to open almost instantly, showing the status that it most recently pulled from the car. Now the app takes several seconds to open each time. Please revert back to an instant open.
I love the ability to push navigation directly to my car, but as other reviewers have mentioned, please make the backend servers more reliable.
In general this is a good app, that can be great once you fix a few things, and add a few new features.
Works, but under-supported. Needs Apple Watch compatibility.
This app does function for the most part. I primarily use it to check the charging status and perform remote starts on my Chevy Volt. Having used the app for three years I have seen the app crash and not work for weeks at a time and in one case over a month. When it works, it's fine. But it feels like GM doesn't put any priority on the app. It's like they contracted out to have an app made so they could check a box that says "we have an app that can remote start your car" and then they walked away.
Apps are cheap. I just don't understand why they don't put a little more effort in to keeping it running smoothly. I also recently bought an Apple Watch. I would really like but I have absolutely zero expectation that I will ever see an Apple Watch app for my remote start (You can remote start a Tesla from a smart watch).
Come on GM, you're doing some great things with your cars and that's the hard part, a little bit more effort on the app would be quite simple.
