PRAISE FROM THE PRESS
ChuChu Rocket! was a total blast when I had a chance to play it today, and it makes me sad that I never tried out this title almost a decade ago. It seems like a perfect fit for the iPhone, with all of the original levels reworked to be touch screen friendly – touchArcade.com

Gathering up four friends for a manic game of Chu Chu Rocket is a cherished gaming memory. The version of Chu Chu Rocket I was able to play today at SEGA's offices pretty much matched up with those memories – IGN.com

Chu Chu Rocket will command attention by virtue of being different from the steady string match-three puzzlers and its multiplayer push. Even though it can't claim innovation as a port of an older title, there's still a sense of freshness and certainly an appeal about this game of cat and mouse. – PocketGamer.com

Chu Chu Rocket a Classic

I had always wondered what the game chu chu rocket was since their debut in SEGA all stars. It interested me since I'd never heard of it. I researched it and it still left me wondering what it was. I was really excited when I found out it was on I Tunes and for such a cheap price! I was definitely going to buy it! I did and I was very pleased. Wasn't sure what to expect but what I played was amazing! I've never played such a game as this! Totally unique! You can play all different kinds of awesome puzzles that just need a little thinking to solve! The puzzles definitely keep you entertained. Once you solve one puzzle you can't stop solvn! Just plain fun! Don't recommend to really young players. Some puzzles can be really challenging and I don't think someone 5 years old is even going to stick through a tutorial for more than 10 seconds! Definitely an E 10 and up. Very appropriate. Nothing a 3 year old couldn't handle except Maybe a few chu chus getting eaten by a cat. All in all 4 stars.

Great game, not so great iPad adaptation

If you're seeing this review, it's probably because you already love ChuChu Rocket. I do too. You don't just stumble upon this game at this day and age. Here's the deal: this is a great game, and a great price. Nothing should stop you from buying this, BUT there are some things to gripe about:
1) this app is not a + app, so it has separate iPhone and iPad versions. This is excusable given when the game was released to iOS, but very disappointing.
2) the menus and some other UI elements of this iPad version of the game are clearly ripped from the iPhone version, and poorly optimized for the iPad.

I wish Sega would address these issues, but they probably won't. I suspect we may see another optimized version of ChuChu Rocket in the future, but it will be marred by in-app purchases. So in summary: get this game, live the nostalgia and try to ignore the untapped potential this game has. At least it didn't get ruined like the latest iOS Crazy Taxi.

Mostly awesome

The Good:
* It's Chu Chu Rocket, one of the best reasons to have own a Dreamcast!
* Touch controls seem more of a natural fit to the game than the original controller-based scheme as you can jump around to different parts of the board quicker. Takes some getting used to though for veteran players.
* They kept in Japanese language support. For some reason, this game always seemed more natural with the announcer screaming in an incomprehensible language every time you collect a random mouse. But maybe I'm just weird like that.

The Not So Good:
* Have to sit through a tutorial at the beginning, no option to skip it.
* AI player simulated control timings are still based on the Dreamcast version, which means they can lay down arrows *way* faster than any human can with the iOS version swipe controls. I like the feel of the swipe controls but they're slower than the old button controls, so when two or more players gang up to attack you it is obscenely difficult to repel them. On the one hand I suppose it's nice to face tougher opponents (as the DC version AI really doesn't challenge me anymore) but I'd rather they be strategically smarter than just able to physically interact with the board faster.
