This beautifully constructed app with all original hand painted art will help children learn the U.S. states and capitals. Behind the scenes in Geographia is Mungo, the world’s most experienced avian explorer. This one-of-a-kind bird introduces learners to his bird’s-eye view of the United States of America making learning the states and capitals both fun and engaging.
√ States and capitals are grouped into eight manageable regions to facilitate learning. Each region takes a few minutes to learn or practice. Using Geographia on a mobile device allows learners to practice states and capitals anytime anywhere when they have a few minutes to spare. Frequent practice improves memorization. States are drawn in a range of colors so they will be easier to identify.
√ Audio instructions are used to guide the child through Geographia.
√ Learning is divided into two phases: Explore and Challenge. Explore enables the child to associate a state’s name or capital with its shape and location. Challenge invites them to test their knowledge for a region.
√ Rewards are given when a region is mastered.
√ Geographia supports multiple player accounts.
√ The child and parent (or teacher) can view the overall progress of the learner, which includes level mastery, completion times, and much more. Attempt data is grouped into charts and graphs for parents and teachers to assess the child’s progress. They can also view the list of states and capitals the learner has mastered in each attempt.
How to Use Geographia
√ Attend to the shape of each state as a visual cue.
√ Listen to the state names as an auditory cue.
√ Practice each region several times until reaching 100% accuracy. Revisit the region in a day or two.

Good geography app, some bugs, some possible improvements
The colors and game flow make this app engaging for kids and for adults who could stand to learn a bit about geography. That said, there are some bugs. In our game, the app locked up on the MidAtlantic Region, which was OK for me but would be harder for an elementary aged child. I liked the way the game broke the country into regions to make learning easier. That said, the game never put the country back together again. It would be nice to have a final level which includes the entire country--that would provide some context for kids who are learning this for the first time. Overall a good purchase, though. The child in my house loves it. By the way, attempts to view the developer website from either the App Store or the App Itself result in a 403 error.
