Description

Cinch gives you simple, mouse or trackpad-driven window management by defining the left, right, and top edges of your screen as 'hot zones'. Drag a window until the cursor hits one of these zones then drop the window to have it cinch into place.

Cinching to the left or right edges of the screen will resize the window to fill half the screen, allowing you to easily compare two windows side-by-side (splitscreen).

Cinching to the top edge of the screen will maximize the window to fill the entire screen (fullscreen).

Dragging a window away from its cinched position will restore the window to its original size.

Problematic with external monitors

Great in theory. Love it when I’m on the road and only using laptop screen (works perfectly). But when I have an external monitor connected, the “shared edge” between screens fails to pickup the drop zone. As a result, the half-screen drop zone only works on the left side on my external and only on the right side on my main screen. (OS X Yosemite)

Cinch Continues Its Success!

The first time I used Cinch was back in 2012 when I owned a a 2007 macbook for the first time. The computer was great but one of the first things that pained me and I immediately needed was a feature that mirrored Windows snap. I could not live without this and needed it for every day use because it makes anything so much simplier and better managed. I cannot imagine NOT having this feature on any computer I'm using. To my suprise there was Cinch in the app store so I downloaded it to give the app a shot. It served its purpose, is well made, and I used the free version on multiple mac's I've had over the years.

I just finished building one of my most recent macbook's and the first app I went to download is Cinch. I saw that it was $6.99 but I did not bat an eye. This app has served me well for a number of years and I give it full support, one of the best ever!!!

Needs a Full Redesign from Scratch

It is not only *still* causing my 2016 MacBook to crash on waking from sleep, but it is also causing major issues on my iMac Pro where applications will freeze while opening and quitting (and thus also preventing normal shutdowns due to the apps never closing). When Cinch is disabled, this does not occur at all. I guess it’s just time to abandon this app I’ve been using since macOS 10.6 until the developers can entirely scrap the legacy tool and rebuild it from scratch. BTW if you do rebuild it from scratch to work on modern macOS’s, please also remove the dashed lines to align with Apple’s removal of psseudomorphic design tendencies, and entirely eliminate the animation. The entire thing will feel fresh and snappy.
