IntelliVocab for GRE and GMAT
By Faqden Labs
This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices.
IntelliVocab (formerly PowerVocab) personalizes the English vocabulary learning for competitive exams and personal improvement. This app is built by students of MIT based on the latest research in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Web Semantics.
It uses latest machine learning algorithms and web semantic techniques to collapse billions of possibilities into comprehensible probabilistic profile information, in real-time. It completely controls the learning environment, so that you do not have to plan your learning approach. All you need to do is interact. The more you practice, the more it learns about you and figures out words that are difficult for you. It ensures you achieve the top scores in competitive exams like GMAT, SAT, GRE or in your professional work.
— 290+ words ( common words from competitive exams ) in the lite version
— Intelligent algorithm to customize the learning experience.
— Key aspect of the app is the practice session.
— Words in practice session are customized based on your expertise level, and your comfort level with the words.
— Two parameters are used to profile users. “Expert Level” of the user and “Commitment level” of the user. ExpertLevel: determined based on the interactions with the words. CommitmentLevel: determined based on the interactions with the iPhone App/AI engine
What's New in Version 3.2
- Bug fixes and improvements
A useful, highly focussed if uninspired effort.
Imagine if one were to somehow perfectly translate the pre-net era of studying vocabulary into an online analogue. Would you use it? Are you too age-deprived to know? Well here it is...bland, inflexible, workmanlike, but an effective study tool for the covered exams. Having taken those same exams two decades ago, however, I hoped for a contemporary interpretation of classic study guides. For instance, I did not know or had forgotten 6 words from the "A" vocab. group. Would but the app allowed me to somehow highlight, create a list, or even a custom quiz from the master list of term but...no. Tap on a word and its' mini definition and you get...a longer definition. You cannot edit lists, perform set-asides...the only customization I've yet seen in the app. Seriously, any VOCABULARY app that forces you perform a screen capture as the only in-device means to differentiate words you from words you don't. Basic right? But here basically absent...along with roughly the last 15 years of progress.
