Managing windows can be frustrating, requiring precision control of your mouse or trackpad for clicking, dragging, pushing and pulling your windows to the size and position you desire. Even with all this work, it’s very difficult to get windows exactly where you want them, so most of the time windows are left scattered all over the screen.
Divvy, a solution for both Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows, is an entirely new way of managing your windows. It allows you to quickly and efficiently "divvy up" your screen into exact portions. This lets you take maximum advantage of your screen real estate without any hassle at all. Window management has never been this easy.
With Divvy, it’s as simple as a single click and drag in the Divvy interface and your window will be resized and moved to a relative portion of the screen. If that seems like too much work, you can go ahead and create as many different shortcuts as you'd like that resize and move your windows.
Divvy is designed to be quick, simple and elegant, staying out of your way as much as possible while providing the most powerful window management available today.
• Resize your windows with the innovative Divvy grid
• Customizable grid size (from 1x1 up to 20x20)
• Works with multiple monitors
• Unlimited user-customizable keyboard shortcuts
• Access Divvy from anywhere using a configurable global hotkey
What's New in Version 1.4.1
• Improved compatibility for OS X 10.10 Yosemite.
• Improved reliability of resizing when Dock is hidden on the right.
• Fixed panel staying open even when "Keep panel open until dismissed" was disabled.
Nice App, Would be better if...
Nice app for single monitor use. Multi-monitor is almost there. Shortcuts do not remember which screen they are associated with. Because of this a window will either snap to it’s position on the preferred monitor or any other monitor. Repeatedly pressing the same shortcut key will cycle through the monitors until you find the correct one. At first I thought it was malfunctioning until I realized that Divvy doesn’t differentiate it’s short cuts by monitor. For example, Snap Left Monitor 1 is exactly the same as Snap Left Monitor 2. It would be substantially better if the shortcuts were specific to the monitor where you set them. You can disable cycling through monitors, however this means that the window will snap to the position on its current monitor only which may not be where you are trying to go.
Otherwise this app works well. If you don’t use shortcuts with multiple monitors, then you should find this to be a very good solution.
Took a while, but I love it...
I’m not someone that uses keyboard shortcuts too often, but they always sound good to me. So I bought Divvy and it sat there for a while. As a developer, I often have many windows up on the screen either expanded to full screen or split between them. With Yosemite, I hate the new expand button and was constantly fighting to find the right positions, etc. for the various windows I commonly have up. Then I remembered I bought Divvy. A little while later and now I have a few simple keystrokes to put the windows exactly where I want them. It’s so much easier than trying to drag these stupid things around! I’m just embarrassed that it took me this long.
I have been using your application for a few years now, and I really just want to say thanks. You always update and spend time and effort on the application, even after you’ve sold your product and there is no new financial incentive to support new operating systems. I love the ability to completely grid my desktop applications and though I allow few apps to open on start-up yours is one of them. Keep up the great work!
