Description

This program allows you to build diagrams of processes and monitor their execution. As a rule, tasks do not exist on their own, they are usually interrelated, and the best way to show this is to build a diagram of processes.

Almost every task in the program can be drilled down to a separate diagram, until the project is broken down into elementary operations. Having constructed a detailed scheme, you can simulate the future execution of the project, what will become the basis for the planned schedule, which can be compared with the current execution of tasks without leaving the program. You can also place some tasks in the Calendar and set reminders on them.

More formally, the program allows you to build a customized, based on the BPMN notation, PERT diagram of the project (with events and processes at nodes). Then this description of the project is used to generate a Gantt chart and track the progress of the project.

So, inShort is a powerful tool to work with projects and business processes, which can be applied not only in office but also for personal purposes. You can further explore the capabilities of the program with the detailed interactive User Guide.

Here are a few cases in which this program can help you:

You have a difficult task, you do not know where to start and how to approach it.
Try to approach it with this program and you'll find out where to start and where to move.

Or conversely, you have a lot of problems: you are literally surrounded with task managers and planners, but at the same time feel that you make no headway, like a squirrel in a cage.
Draw your goals in this program, and you'll find out, which of your tasks work for your goals and which — against them.

You suspect that business processes in your organization are not optimal and you are doing a lot of unnecessary work?
Build a scheme of processes in this program, and you'll see what's what.

Need to plan a complex project?
Draw a sketch, and you won't have to constantly make the project plan over in a project manager.

You need to organize the learning process by a mass of sources in a certain order?
Build a curriculum inShort, and you won't get lost in the new material.

It is important to understand that this program by itself does not solve problems and does not reach your goals, but it allows to see them in new ways and discover the right direction for your efforts.

Key features:
• Building the diagram of processes and resources (PERT network diagram of the project, based on BPMN notation).
• Drill down the diagram elements.
• Tracking the execution of processes.
• Advanced mode of pre-planning.
• Integration with the standard Calendar.
• Displaying the list of tasks in the form of a Gantt chart.
• Separation of physical and information flows.
• Export of diagrams into PDF files and OPML outlines.
• Ability to specify the expected time of execution, both directly and parametrically.
• Working calendars taking into account various schedules of work for implementation of tasks.
• Work resources and their assignment to tasks.

Advanced features of project management in accordance with the Theory of Constraints technique:
• finding the critical path;
• positioning of time buffers of the project;
• calculation of buffer sizes;
• calculation of late starts for feeding paths of the project;
• tracking of time indicators during project execution.

Cannot solve a problem? Draw it inShort and sort things out with it there. It's like voodoo but it works.

What's New

Version 7.0.1

Fixed an issue of restoring the User Guide on the iPad.

* * *
Work with cycles has been added to the application:
• introduced threads of execution, allowing to take into account several schedules for one object;
• added modes for including objects in a cycle;
• expanded work with resources to account for cyclical work;
• the Gantt chart is adapted to display iterations;
• User guide and documentation have been supplemented.

Also:
• Added display of the decision taken at the branch point on the Gantt chart;
• Fixed a bug in which the User Guide was loaded in passive mode, if you do not have the User Guide available for execution, restore it in the settings.

Brilliant and very useful

First, this app does have a learning curve and there is plenty to learn. But it is well worth learning and far from impossible with a little patience. The app is powerful, feature-rich, and allows detailed, visually intuitive planning processes. I downloaded it last night (along with half a dozen other project planning apps, now deleted), worked through about half of the tutorial (I'll go back for the rest), and in an hour or so today have mapped out a forthcoming 10 month project in a way that will give me an intuitive overview and a way of tracking the steps (I generally find Gantt-oriented programs a bad fit for the more fuzzy-boundaried projects I am involved in - this is perfect). This is the best app for iPad that I've seen in terms of giving me tools to make my work easier (as opposed to dumbed down cute interfaces with lack of control over detail). A little patience is needed to discover best ways of working with the app - e.g. I started out following the guide and creating new objects by dragging boxes, which is a bit finnicky - then realised I could drag default objects from the list, which suits me better. I would like to see the ability to add a background color to each object to make it easier to make certain parts of the process stand out to me visually before they are due.

Great for BPM Evaluations

I am a big fan of this app. Learned a lot by just using it and have used successfully in various applications. While there is a bit if a learning curve, it's not bad and well worth it. I have found great value in being able to diagram BPM steps with drill down capability to avoid over complicating the workflow.
Would like a feature to highlight path options between elements. This would help in using for implementation in web development for example. Right now I export PDF files from inshort and highlight the paths in a different app. Hope other folks see value in this feature for consideration. Would also like to see pools for the swim lanes. I can kind of work around this for now, but it would be nice to have this baked in.
Notice some bugs that prevent diagram editing until I back out and into the folder. May be related to memory management with large process flows or having several other apps open, but should investigate. Have not lost data / work done as a result so will not dock a star for that.
Looking forward to continued development.

Well thought out, good implementation

I have been looking for process diagramming apps that let you create a library of everyday processes, and this is the most useful I have found so far. The learning curve may be a bit steep, and the interface could be more intuitive at times, but overall it is a really well done app for specialists who need this sort of thing.

It would be better if you could mark tasks done with one touch, if timed steps were more animated (with a display of time remaining and elapsed, for example), and if it could store data in a more useful way so you could actually use it to do things like track service schedules and trip mileage for your car, and then produce a report.

I love that you can select text formatting, embed illustrations (pictures, but unfortunately not video) and web links. The diagraming interface gets the job done without being too clumsy. The list view is pretty good, but having the status of items all the way on the right makes it look cluttered and hard to read. With a little more work, this could become a very useful tool for everyday use.
