Not great search engine or bundling options
I travel A LOT and many of the places I travel to do not have an airport near by so I have to fly to the closest airport, rent a car and then book a hotel 2 hours from my airport. Unfortunately, the best way to get deals on Expedia is through booking all these items at the same time. The bundle deals never let me put the area that I need for the hotel. It always tries to put me in a hotel close to airport. Also, I have accidentally booked two flights at the same time. There are no safety measures or alerts in place to warn you like “Warning, you are about to book two flight at the same time.” Expedia of course did not give me my money back for this mistake despite being a VIP member as I called about it 24 hours after I booked.
Overall, I think the idea of Expedia is great and it’s very convenient in a lot of ways but It has been very tedious and annoying to get good prices easily since I travel from place to place. Otherwise booking for one full round trip vacation is super easy and great. Just booking one way to one way to one way is incredibly difficult
Horrible customer service!!!!
I booked the GSR hotel in Reno through Expedia last night. The rate per night was $116 plus taxes. After I selected that room it gave me the option of paying up font with not cancellation and the total will be $281 or pay later for an amount much larger. I selected the $281 and paid with my credit card. I received an itinerary confirmation and I noticed I was charged $451!!!!
I called right the way and I was on the call for 1h 9m. They passed me around, put me on hold multiple times and didn’t solved the issue. I even provide them screenshots I took showing the $116 rate on my computer!!!! At that point they told me that rate was for a different account, which I provide the right information for “that account” and they told me that the only thing they could do is reimburse my credit card.... and it will ONLY take 5 business days to get my money back! That’s just fantastic! At that point I asked to talk to management and they told me they only work until 5pm. I ask to transfer me to their voicemail mail, he told me he could do that. I asked to be put though a survey so I can share my experience and he said not to that too. I finally ask for his full name and I got “Luke” and I asked for the last name and he told me “they don’t give last names”.
That was far THE MOST FRUSTRATING customer experience I ever had. At this point I will not been using Expedia ever again for my travels. And I’ll make sure to share my experience with friends and family.
I have used Expedia for a long time and have never had an issue until my most recent booking. I’m appalled at the lack of customer service and the false advertisement. I booked a morning flight which the airline then cancelled. Expedia offered to put me on an evening flight in which they sent an email stating “if this does not work for you, please contact booking so we can accommodate you”. When I called I was told because I booked a basic economy flight that I would not be able to choose a different flight unless I paid the fees to change which would have cost me $200 more. When I asked why I was sent the email with the offer to change, they told me they didn’t know why I was sent one with the option to change my flight however, it was sent to me to let me know my original flight had been cancelled. This makes no sense to me, my last trip I booked economy through Expedia my flight was delayed by 1 hour and they allowed me to find another flight. I then needed to change the credit card on file that was used to reserve my hotel, I was told I could not change it unless I cancelled and rebooked. I then asked if they would honor the same rate I booked which they told me no and that the hotel was sold out. When I called the hotel directly, there was no issue to change the card information. I’m not sure what has happened within 4 months time, but I will no longer book through Expedia.
