This app lets you measure the point-to-point (great-circle) distance between two or more waypoints on a map or measure the surface area defined by a polygon having three or more points as its corners.
It uses online maps so it needs an internet connection.
Tap and hold to set a new waypoint, tap the options icon to read the manual or to open the settings view to change the map type or the measuring unit. You can choose between (kilo)meters, feet/yards/miles and nautical miles. The options menu also lets you choose to go to the Save/Restore view.
Tap the calculated measurement at the bottom of the map to switch between feet/yards/miles or meters/hectometers/kilometers.
What's New in Version 3.4.0
Added measuring in yards, acres and hectares.
Now in addition to feet and miles you can measure your distances in yards. Everyone using this app on the golf course should be very pleased with this.
Measuring areas in acres and hectares is also among the possibilities now.
Tap the calculated measurement at the bottom of the map to switch between them.
It's a Good App
I just wish I could pay a couple of bucks instead of dealing with the full-length ad taking up so much real estate. Not to mention, the banner showing ads of questionable legitimacy. You have to be careful not to accidentally hit the thing, which I guess is the point. Obviously, it's the dev's right to make money however he/she sees fit. I guess it's my right not to like the way they choose, and in this case, I'm afraid that's what's happened. I'm just a typical ad-hater, and if I use an app more than a few times/year, I always pay for the "pro" version (or whatever they call it) to get rid of the ads. I wish I could have done so here as well.
I've used this app for determining length of both paddleboard tour and hiking distance. DistMeasure gave me a solid idea of the distance I covered. I've also used the area function and found it to be relatively accurate.
Doesn't follow roads
I used to map out my runs on o e of the gps apps - can't find it, or that feature was removed. Tried to use this app - it doesn't work because this app doesn't follow the roads - it creates a straight line between 2 way points. Not sure what value this since the only mode of transportation that follows a straight line is an airplane.
