Very Cool Game
Downloaded this a long time ago and it has consistently been one of the games I go back to time and time again when I need some space combat / RPG action… Really enjoyable, dunno what ppl were talking about when they talked about a complete lack of feel for your ship… If they're upset that you don't actually have to sit there and hold a button to keep your ship flying from one waypoint to the next, there would be a ton of people complaining if it was done differently. I think the idea of just setting your waypoint and warping from one area to the next was brilliant. Granted it does not have the "open world" feeling that MMO's have, but I never felt like this game said it was one…
The description is very accurate, TONS of ship builds available to suit what kind of game you wanna play. I personally love building up my armada into a mercenary fleet and just go around whooping on people and I'm able to do that. Shoot, just the fact that I can own BATTLESHIPS made it worth it. Very satisfying to go back to early missions where your poor little fighter was getting swarmed by enemies and roll in there with your fleet of death behemoths makes the game alllllllllll worth it.
Good ship-based space tactical game
This is distinct from GoF I and II. Ship customization is fun, and I loved building up my fleet to an overpowered level. I had fun with the grind to get materials and money for huge upgrades...first a destroyer, then cruiser, then battleship. I built my first battle cruiser before the final battle, and even after the storyline finished, I am enjoying the grind for one of the biggest BCs. I also like how quests can yield slightly better parts than those available in star ports. This is tactical combat, not aim-and-shoot; I enjoyed the combat style, even though it is less free-form than a true 3D space shooter and your weapons never miss. It is not RTS, and not freelancer...a linear storyline, with an open travel and mission option.
Be warned: there are a ton of cutscenes in every phase of this game; you are always waiting for a silly movie to finish so you can fight or use the star port. The fleet and ship upgrades are a lot of fun, but this is a grinding based fun.
It is a great game if you want a shooter like GOF 1-2 then this isn't for you but its a great game if you like economics and battles combined it has fantastic graphics and a decent story line although as many have said it does get a bit repetitive (hence the four stars) and the final battle in story is stupidly hard unless you have a few battle cruisers which take forever to get since they are incredible expensive if its ever updated a few more star systems to explore would be nice, someone mentioned a log of trade goods and equipment so its easier to remember where to bye and trade some thing that you have already explored, and also more missions that also give you more money and i like the idea of giving fleet commands
Over all verdict: its not GOF but it is a good space RPG and i would recommend it
