Sand Pictures creates beautiful landscapes from falling sand and rising bubbles. It is just like the sand picture frames in the real world, except on iPad you can interact!
Sand Pictures offers a highly realistic simulation of falling sand, with nearly 100,000 individual particles, all responding to gravity and collisions. The darker grains fall faster than the lighter ones, creating layers in the sand which results in magical works of art.
Push grains of sand around with your finger, or pop bubbles with a tap. Hold your finger in one spot to add more bubbles.
Changing between the 20 beautiful background images is as simple as a two finger swipe to the right or left. Or choose your own image from your photo library. You can also change the color of the sand through over 50 built in color gradients by dragging with two fingers up and down.
You can turn iPad any way you like and the sand will fall in different directions. Turning iPad over flips gravity, creating a new picture. Or tap the rotate button to let Sand Pictures flip the image for you.
You can also save the landscapes you create to your photo library, and post them straight to Twitter or Facebook with just a couple of taps.

Fixes launch issues on iOS 6
Adds retina support
This app has nice options for colors and backgrounds, but, for me, the grains of "sand" are too large. It distracts me from fully enjoying the simulation. Take a look at thiissand to see what I think of when I think sand. I am still undecided as to whether or not I am happy with the purchase.
Close...but not good enough
This would be a great app if the grains of sand were much smaller. The developer nailed the physics of the sand, but the grains of sand are so huge it looks like it's an 8-bit game...just awful looking.
This is a good offering
but this is the only offering, so there is no comparison to other apps. This works as advertised. It must be difficult to manage all those little grains of sand. The only thing this promises that does not work is my own background. I cannot get to my own pictures. It asked me once to access my photos, I said yes, then it never gave me the chance to pick a picture. I love these things in real life, and glad to see it on my iPad. It is not perfect, but what is. I looked on the developer site and this app is not even mentioned, so I think this is a a dead product.
In the real thing there is usually a catastrophic collapse of air moving up and sound moving down. sometimes small islands of sand flip over as the air inverts them. This type of ending does not exist in this product. It is linear and uses simple calculations to move every grain no matter the forces acting on it.
I know this must be difficult, but we have A7 chips now and things can be much better. Pull out the code and update this
