Description

Read on Sight is a great way for early readers to practice sight words, an important building block for independent reading. First a sentence is read aloud, then the word tiles scatter, and the player rebuilds the sentence.

The latest version includes lots of fun game-play. For every word you place correctly you earn a star. When you complete a full set of sentences, earn enough stars, or other achievements you receive an animated badge which you can replay anytime you want.

In addition to the fun, Read on Sight also helps parents and teachers by keeping track of the player's progress. Every sentence a player completes is recorded including the difficulty level.

About Sight Words:
At some point we all learn to read without sounding out each letter in a word. We recognize the entire word and know what it means. This skill is especially important for common words that are not easily sounded out. The sooner a child learns these words by sight, the sooner they gain the confidence to read independently. In the 1930s, Edward Dolch went through children's books and created a list of words that were frequently used but hard to sound out. Once a child masters this list, he or she will be a much faster reader, able to enjoy stories without the words getting in the way.

Great, simple and SMART!

My 4 years old daughter LOVED this simple educational game. There is absolutely NO: distractions (music, flashy lights, noises, stickers or any other annoying features).
It is just a simple educational game that allows the child to position the word blocks in the correct order to complete a given sentence. The sentence with the correct structure is read and shown briefly at the very beginning of the game and after that all the blocks move in different directions and the objective is that the player needs to move all the words (blocks) back to the original position (hence in the correct order). It's is like a sentence puzzle, just perfect for early readers to practice reading and grammar structure in a very easy format. My daughter kept asking for new sentences. I only had to show her how to complete one sentence and she got the idea immediately. It was very satisfying for her to be able to form sentences.
I will be happy to pay for a full version with more sentences and it will be great if one could import new challenging words to adjust the level to individual needs.

I like this app for use with beginning readers. However, I would like to use it with a student with some visual perceptual problems and the low color contrast and size of the print will make it difficult for him to see the words. Changing these elements would be very helpful for him and other children with similar needs.
