Can you stand against the impending arrival of a malevolent Ancient One?
While Elder Sign: Omens brilliantly conveys the spirit of the Elder Sign dice game, a few noteworthy differences were adopted to optimize the mobile play experience:
-A limited number of available Ancient Ones streamlines the game play experience while offering adjustable levels of difficulty. Face Yig in normal mode, Azathoth in difficult mode, or Cthulhu in very hard mode (in-app purchase required to face Cthulhu).
-A number of subtle changes increase the peril of defending humanity. For example, the random negative effects drawn every midnight are more challenging, and the frequency of “no effect” results has been decreased. Monsters have likewise been altered to make them more difficult.
-Finally, there are no Ally cards in Elder Sign: Omens, which further streamlines play while increasing the overall challenge.
What's New in Version 1.4.2
Fixed bug allowing you to select the same investigator multiple times.
Fixed a problem with scoreboard entry.
I have played this board game, and it's awesome. When I read the reviews for this app, I assumed the people complaining about the rolls maybe just weren't familiar with the difficulty level of FF games. However, after playing a few games I can confirm that the dice rolls are way too unbalanced. I have yet to win a game because the dice rolls are not chance, they are rolling straight up against you. Until that is fixed I'm afraid I can only give this 3 stars, if they fix it this would be an amazing translation from a great board game to a great app.
This game is a lot of fun. Don't understand the reviews claiming you can't win. Yes, some of the Ancient Ones are harder to beat than others, but I have won against all of them, several of them consistently. There is a Yahtzee-like luck element, but there are interesting ways to offset the luck factor. The more you play, the more you figure them out.
Great game, but...
This game is well worth the price. Using the characters' unique abilities intelligently is about the only way to win.
That said, the dice rolls are often BS, which is somewhat frustrating. There's bad luck, and then there's bad balancing. This occasionally falls into the latter category. Please fix!
I'd love to see Fantasy Flight adapt more games soon.
