Here we go with a classic Private detective Radio series – Richard Diamond , The Private Detective.

Richard Diamond, Private Detective came in 1949. Diamond was a slick, sophisticated detective, with a sharp tongue for folks who needed it. Diamond enjoyed the detective life, but not as much as entertaining his girl, Helen Asher. After each show, he would croon a number to his Park Avenue sweetheart. Mr. Powell, a former song and dance man, was perfect for the role. He added an extra dimension to the 40's hokey private eye drama.

Diamond was a rough gumshoe that would often get knocked on the head with a revolver or other items. His counterpart on the police force was Lt. Levinson who often accepted Diamond's help reluctantly. Levinson would claim to get stomach trouble whenever Diamond would call him and would take bicarbonate to settle his aching stomach. Although they always seem at odds with each other, Diamond and Levinson were best friends.

The plot theme remained fairly constant throughout the entire run of the show, Diamond getting beat up and solving a tough murder case with the support of the police department. Remarkably, for all the gun fights, Diamond never got shot. And for all his bravado, he had a serious case of vertigo.

Outstanding App and radio series

Richard Diamond is without a doubt one of the best of the Golden Age radio detective series of all time. This vintage radio app is excellent and presents the episodes in easy to use fashion. I wish there were more episodes, I've listened to them many times over.

Private Eye Diamond

Lacks the gimmick (Mary Tyler Moore'S legs) of the tv show, but an entertaining emanation of the old time radio detective. Formula episodes are still fun, nostalgic for the radio generation, entertaining for those a bit younger. Really recreates the sense of 40s radio. Good company for a long drive.

I've had good luck playing episodes. If you enjoy old radio tough guy detectives, you should enjoy this one. I enjoy the episodes, because they're entertaining.

I love Richard Diamond

Dick Powell's Richard Diamond is one of my favorite OTR Detectives, however, I would rather just add the radio shows to iTunes, than to use this App because it's a pain in the rumpus to have to restart each episode. How hard would it have been to have the App have a play thru feature, so that those of us that want to hear more than one episode at a time have the option to?
