“…a powerful music utility that is perfect for getting reacquainted with your favorite tunes.” — John Voorhees,

Featured in Macworld’s “Alternatives to Apple’s iOS Music app”, Picky is for people particular about their music, giving you full control over how you browse and listen to your albums and songs.

‣ Picky keeps your Artists and Albums lists uncluttered by hiding those with only a few songs – simply adjust the filters to taste.

‣ Queue up tracks to play later: simply swipe to the left on a song until the ‘+’ icon appears and turns solid orange, then let go to enqueue it.

‣ Use Picklists to quickly play (or enqueue) groups of songs – like playing an album without its bonus tracks.

‣ Picky lets you easily filter your Songs and Albums lists by genre (or by multiple genres). You can do things like quickly put together a mix by opening the filter, tapping on a few genres, and then closing it and tapping Shuffle.

‣ Easily sort the main Albums list or artists’ album lists with just a couple taps: by title, release date, duration, or by date added to your library.

‣ You can use the Artists and Songs filters to keep singles and one-hit-wonders tucked away, or bring them into focus when you really want to listen to them.

‣ Picky intelligently combines both grouping by artist and by album artist, so you'll always find your songs where you expect them to be. But if you prefer just one of the groupings, you can easily change that with a setting.

‣ Quickly see the list of your currently playing songs by simply swiping up in the Now Playing view.

‣ Picky is designed for iOS 11 and works with AirPlay, in-line headphone remotes, Split View, Control Center, 3D Touch, VoiceOver, iTunes Match, and Apple Music that has been added to your collection. You can use Picky exclusively or seamlessly switch between it and the system Music app.

Picky: for listeners with refined taste.

What's New

Version 3.0.1

‣ Fixed a bug on iOS 11.3 that caused a long delay when starting to play a new group of songs
‣ Improved the responsiveness of the playback slider
‣ Fixed a couple of other minor bugs

Playback on the latest version of iOS is now nice and smooth — if you’re running iOS 11.2 I highly recommend updating to 11.3 to get the full effect. Stay tuned for another small update soon to make queuing even more seamless, with bigger changes on the way later this spring!

Fantastic replacement for Apple’s Music app

Faffy Geoffy

I’ve been searching for a music app to replace Apple’s, but each one I’ve tried has problems I just can’t overlook... That is, until I tried Picky! It’s responsive, bug free, and easy to use. It has great sort options, so I can view my music just the way I want it. In my eyes, the only thing it really lacks is support for playlist folders, but since everything else is perfect, I’m willing to do without them. If you have a large collection of iTunes music like I do, I would highly recommend this app.

Developer Response

Glad to hear how happy with Picky you are! I’ve been meaning to investigate playlist folder support further… stay tuned 🙂

So disappointed

Hopefully next update, still waiting for the random order when you create a shuffle list of your songs. Not the ABC order of your songs. I was waiting for too long to decide whether getting this app or not. But if this app is specially designed for Playlist it's ridiculous that the queue is shown by alphabetical order. I mean if you select to randomly play your songs of the library, the following songs are the alphabetical order, so there's no way to really see what song is coming next or the edit that queue because it's the list of every song you have in alphabetical order, despite the fact the songs are playing randomly. Big disappointment. Don't waist your money.

Developer Response

I’m sorry about that… you have a good point, showing them in the shuffled order would make way more sense (I don’t doesn’t use shuffle much myself so don’t really run into these issues as much). I’m going to see if I can fix this for the next app update — I hope with that change Picky will leave you more satisfied.

Thanks for your patience,

Quite worth it!

Simply, the best current music app I’ve found. Great appealing interface, common sense usage (unlike Apple), swipe feature is almost too addictive, and a developer who cares about user feedback and will answer your questions. “Upgrades” from Apple are always a shaky proposition, and now we have iOS 11. I’m looking forward to how Picky continues to face those challenges and thoroughly outdo Apple’s native music app.
