Fun but irritating

I've been using Depop for about 2-3 months now to sell my stuff (which isn't as long as some others but I think I've learned the way around the app) and have between 1-2 thousand followers. When I first started, although not long ago, I appreciated how diverse the app was through its customers and the explore page. I'm not "butt-hurt" about not getting featured, but come on... for the past few weeks the explore page has been the SAME, already Depop-famous people. Not only that, but I've seen them feature up to 5 products by those same people at once. If you're focused on building an aesthetic feed, there's still plenty of smaller accounts that I've seen who provide clean, quality photos and unique products. It's extremely hard for smaller accounts to grow and sell now that Depop doesn't feature a variety of people. Give everyone a shot at their few seconds of fame! Also, I've seen stock images or unoriginal photos on the explore page too. It's like Depop doesn't even care to put in the effort anymore to at least do a little profile searching and see that this is not the seller's photo. Once I even saw just a selfie with sunglasses (that of which Depop probably thought they were selling) whose caption was just something about the seller and then "not for sale." All the comments were wondering why that was on the explore page, and I was too. It gives us the impression that you don't put in effort to make quality explore page.

Well I'm happy with it

I see a lot of mixed reviews here that I've taken the time to read. I think people are expecting a lot from this app, which is very good; though demanding all of the kinks and tweaks to be made ASAP I don't necessarily agree with. In my opinion the app does what it is supposed to. I'm seeing a lot of complaints about the explorer page but come on. Okay yes, I get that it helps sell items but is it really that big of a deal? So the same, relatively well known sellers get a spot more frequently than the rest of us but that's just something that needs to be worked out. And, if you asked me, doesn't take away from the functionality of the app. To me, the app is lovely and I spend a lot of time paroozing through clothes just to pass time. I know the app has a couple of things that need a bit of TLC but I'm going to stick by the app and support it because I think it's a great concept. All apps have things that they need to work out, I mean come on.. that new snapchat update?... Instagram's chronological issue that they haven't changed bc they won't acknowledge that we all loath is? No. That is not this app. This app, as I have seen, listens to the critique of its users. I love this app for that. And I think it deserves more than people care to give it.

Users take advantage of you

I started using this app a few months ago and all was good until I bought from a user that deleted their account before shipping their item. Depop does offer customer service however, they provided little to no help in getting my money back. Instead told me that their was a dispute with the user’s account and to wait for my money to possibly and/or item to come, both which never did. I was also sent a link by Depop to handle the dispute with PayPal even though I didn’t pay using PayPal. It seems that accounts like these that take advantage of people don’t get any serious action or consequences. Issues like these can be handled better and Depop can at the very least notify those who purchased items from an account that’s having issues or give those a refund for their product. It makes me wary to use this app to buy anything knowing this could easily happen again.

Edit: PayPal did not pull up any transaction history used through the Depop app. Which is why I state I did not use PayPal to pay for my item. This creates an issue when reporting a problem to PayPal due to there being no history. There’s little options for those that have made an in-app purchase due to lack of history. Instead, the only option seems to be go through the same process of filling out a description of your dispute, which was the same process being used by Depop to handle the situation.

Developer Response

Hey there! All transactions on the app are handle via PayPal (even if you paid with guest check-out) and therefore issues that crop up are also handled by them. They have a straightforward process in place for buyers and sellers alike and so we do believe this is the best way for our users to resolve any issues. Nevertheless thank you for the feedback around notifications, we're working on this! Team Depop
