iOrnament combines art and science, creativity and education, math and fun. With iOrnament everyone can be an artist. You draw strokes and iOrnament repeats them according to rules of symmetry. You will create fascinating ornaments and intricate designs. Fun and challenge from ages 3 to 103. Interactive pop-up tutorial and many drawing tips included!
iOrnament is an app that is designed for drawing ornamental designs that are both artistically and mathematically fascinating. You draw simple strokes and the app repeats them over and over according to the rules of the 17 crystallographic wallpaper groups. By this, fantastic symmetric patterns are created. Kaleidoscope like pictures, tilings, complicated knots and artistic pavements are right at your fingertips. In addition iOrnament contains an interactive pop-up book that explains mathematical backgrounds on the theory of wallpaper groups and a sampler of classical ornaments from ancient cultures.
The design of iOrnament is based on extensive experience in interactive science exhibitions. Children of all ages love it as well as scientifically or artistically interested adults.

What's New in Version 1.5.2
Small fixes and improvements in button logics
and color selection.
For anyone who loves design, ornament, tesselation, or just plain doodling, this is an app you must have. I love playing with repeating motifs, color, calligraphy, letters, and design so I relish every moment I can spend with this. As someone who is not fond of math, I am grateful to a math professor for being so kind as to figure this out and share it with the world. It is inspiring and enthralling. I hope some day they will make it possible to type text in too, or if that already exists I have not yet found it. I also hope perhaps they will allow one to use a photo in the process. Even with those wishes, I still give it five stars. I do not have a costly design program but feel like I do, thanks to this and a number of other favorite apps like Phonto, Waterlogue, Color Splash, Brushstroke, PS Express, Snapseed, TypeDrawing, and more. This may be my first ever app review, but this app is that wonderful. Enjoy!
Amazingly beautiful and addictive; perfect for making wallpaper.
This is a fantastic visual toy, along with being a great tool for some pretty serious digital art. Thanks for making it so powerful and easy to use! M.C. Escher would have gone crazy with a tool like this. You, too, will never have to use somebody else's wallpaper again.
If you read the tutorials and try out the tips, you really can do some very sophisticated patterns. The tips are a great resource and make a huge difference in getting the most out of the app.
Even though you can't save and edit the same Ornament again, and there's no eyedropper tool for picking up existing colors, the UI is really good and responsive, so you can draw and layer up strokes very nicely.
Finally, this app is quite simply delightful -- it inspires delight when you use it. Really. There's something deeply intriguing about seeing how to get a pattern to work and how the different symmetry settings can create a completely new pattern from the same strokes.
Plus the developer is very passionate and is curating a lovely gallery of user submissions.
Low quality printouts- amazing options
I make mandalas. I make mandala art for my job. When this app came out I was thrilled. I actually LOVED this app for a few days until I realized that the quality of the saved images is too low and small. It became increasingly more frustrating as I realized it just wasn't giving me a big enough drawing space. This would be my DREAM app to make mandalas IF they could be detailed at a larger size. Right now you really only have the option of printing a clear mandala at about 4 inches. Ideally, 10"x10" or even larger would be perfect. How it is currently, when you draw at a single pixel you really can only get a few tiers with very little detail because of space. I'd also like to see an option to start with white paper instead of black.
