Great execution of an excellent idea
I never really understood how people could say running was enjoyable. Before this I tried a bunch of techniques to get me to run from the original nike+ sensors to the running apps to other third party apps. I would do it for two maybe three weeks and just give up because I would just get bored
Then I heard review after review about Zombies, Run! and I was still skeptical. I couldn’t believe any app could make running fun. But still, I wanted to get into better shape so I decided to start with the 5K training app. I just completed Week 5! This app has truly made running fun for me. I have surprised myself and my family members by how consistently I have been running. I look forward to my runs now. I want to know what happens next in this wonderfully written story. And I really want to finish my 5K training so that I can then feel good enough to graduate to the main Zombies, Run! app and start doing those missions!
In terms of the app itself, I have so far had zero issues. The app has worked very well. I agree it would be nice to have podcast support but that is not a big enough gripe for me to dock any stars on this app. Thank you Six to Start and thank you Naomi Alderman and thank you Kickstarter for bringing this app to reality.
Why I don't regret buying another couch to 5k app
People who say they get a "runner's high" make me want to tie their shoelaces together. But I want to be able to run at least a little bit. I want to be able to finish a 5k without the speed walker groups passing me up (it has happened)
I'd heard that this app and the original Zombies Run app make your training runs more enjoyable & for awhile I thought great marketing tactic guys but I'm not buying it. But after coming across review after review a couple of weeks ago I finally said "Ok - I'll buy this app (on sale) and prove all those reviews wrong" (I tend to go into exercise endeavors with a bit of a fatalistic attitude.)
So last night after a crap day at work when I had every available excuse at hand (too tired, too late,..,) I still found myself putting on my running shoes & getting out there. Did this app magically cure my running aversion? No. But when I thought abt flaking out last night the progress board on this app flashed through my head, progressing through the mission flashed through my head. And next thing I knew I was out there with my shoes on, dog on his leash, firing up this app. Apparently it's won me over.
So I guess it's time to delete those other 5 or 6 couch to 5k apps sitting on my phone. I don't know how or why exactly but this one has worked for me.
Side Note: from here forward the speed walker group (henceforth aptly referred to as the "walkers") will never catch me again :)
Great fun, even if you’re out of shape.
This app is a lot of fun, even if you’re out of shape or hate exercising. Most people I know wouldn’t consider me that overweight, but during a recent checkup, my Dr told me I am officially obese and need to start by losing 20 pounds. So.. I picked up my phone, downloaded all the fitness apps I could and started trying to get into working out.
This 5k training app is a lot of fun and, in my opinion, better than the others because the story telling is very intimate. Even though I know the actors are all pre-recorded, there’s something soothing about hearing the narrator’s voices encouraging me to keep going that I prefer over the robotic voices or buzzers on some of the other apps.
Training to run from zombies is fun, and this app is great (Zombies! Run! is even better if you’re already a good runner!).
The only CON to this app is that it seems to be glitchy at times. There have been a couple times where I was supposed to do a 30 second constant run. No problem, I’ve actually gotten to the point where I can do that thanks to the app! However, 30 seconds pass… then 45… then I feel like I’m dying and I stop and wait and the signal to stop running never comes. The narrator stops. I actually had to pause and unease the app to get the story to catch up, at which point they flew through several prompts at once. Very distracting.
Outside that glitch, I like the app quite a bit!
