Great Overall

I personally have tried Apple Maps, and Waze for quite some time now. Both are good in their own unique ways. Apple maps is traditional and will take you there in a simple way, not always the fastest route (forgiving it's occasional slip). And Waze is good because it will get you there through side streets and strange routes you never would have thought to take. But it will zig zag you through some tough streets and can be a pain.

Google maps overall just feels more polished. It gives you lane recommendations which I adore, and it visually is easiest on the eye. It has only messed up once in my use. The only thing holding it back from being a solid 5 is it doesn't have a way (that I have found) to sync with your Calendar and grab addresses from upcoming events like Waze. I use a program called Workflow that essentially does this for me, but having it built in would be preferable of course.

Odd directions.

I have been using Google Maps since the app came out. Over all, the maps are spot on and always gets you to where you want to go. But not always. I live in Japan and from using this app, I have been pointed towards roads that are only wide enough for one car (somewhat common road). Told to turn left, right and right again, only to cross the Main Street I was on.... Without a signal. But what really takes the cake is last week, I set a marker on the map to take me to the new police office in my town. Here I was, 8 minutes away (according to Google) when suddenly, I was offered a new route, one that would increase my traveling time by 15 hours and some change. Looked on the map, Google Maps was wanton me to go all the way across country, only to turn around........ Sometimes I have to use common sense and look at the map without directions. Because of I went off the designated route, it would put me on the 15 hour tour.

Like a wooden peg leg.

Without it I'm crippled and can't find my way around but it's a pretty crude solution. Just for looking things up, this app is at least accurate. It's a pain to use but can find places. If you want directions forget it. So cluttered and not intuitive. My thumb always bumps the button and the map centers around my location again. I don't need the little timed messages at the start of a drive. Too many clicks to start a drive. Too many clicks to stop or add a destination. Can't trust the text at the top of directions, you have to watch the map cuz sometimes it won't direct you to the right exit on complex multi-lane ramps. Rights as you're missing your exit the text changes. I miss version 1.0 that came with iOS back in the day. This version needs an overhaul and more options need toggles in settings so I can declutter my iPhone SE screen.
