Wow, I loved the original PvZ to death. So much that I would totally spend $1.99, $2.99, or even $3,99 on it if it was really worth it. So, so many things to complain about... where do I begin?? First off, the text and icons in the game are ridiculously tiny... I'm an older game player and, thus, have a difficult time reading small text. Wasn't like this in the 1st PvZ installment.
Secondly, and more importantly, the game crashes ALL the time. In fact, the last 5 or 6 times I've tried to play, it crashed before I could even get started.
Also, it seems that the "buttons" are way more tiny than they were in the first game, which makes game play extremely difficult. To top that off, with tiny, difficult to see icons, I'm often brought to the screen where you are requested to buy coins or plants or whatever.
In other reviews I've read, it seems that this version is more geared to get people to use real money to buy coins in order to beat impossible levels. I wouldn't know since I've never been ae to get very far in the game before it crashes on me. 'm sure most people would be happy to shell out a couple bucks to buy the game if all these issues were fixed. PLEASE, please do something to fix these issues!!!
It's just getting aggravating now
The first few versions of this game were actually really fun, and I thought it was freemium done right. A couple of updates here and there brought fun new things, like the treasure Yeti and Piñata Parties (yes, I found them to be fun— at the very least, they were creative). The art style also felt fresh, yet familiar to anyone hopping over from the first game.
Fast forward a few months, and EA/PopCap retooled the entire overworld. In the process, they also increased the difficulty dramatically, to the point where it forces you to use powerups. If you don't, you'll probably only have a 10% chance of completing the level— go ahead, try the Gargantuar level in the Dark Ages without any powerups. Piñata Parties were also turned into cash-grabbers— not only did the difficulty rise to frustrating levels, it now cost 1,000 coins to retry one should you mess up. To add some salt in the wound, there's not one, but two in-game currencies— coins for plant food and powers, and gems for powering up plants. I would've easily and happily recommended this game several months ago, but I'm afraid I can't do that anymore.
I enjoy this version just as much as I enjoyed the Nintendo DS version. Fun game, good graphics (for this type of one) and I love the theme of traveling through time and different places. Very cool! The only downside is that you have to use real money to buy new plants and extras, where I think you should be able to use the coins earned in game for that. Other than that, I really enjoy the game. Addicting. I loved the first format, and am getting used to the updated one. I like the challenge of it, and am glad it is difficult to figure out. I hate when I can beat three levels in a row the same way, what fun is that. great update, and I have yet to spend any money. The side missions and Yetis and Gargantuans throw all the extras I need :-)
**the only downside that I see at the moment, is the fact that your data doesn't sync between devices. I realized too late how great this game was, and had been playing on my iPhone. I downloaded it for my iPad thinking it would sync, and it didn't.
