• A VNC Server, such as UltraVNC or TightVNC, is required to connect to a Windows PC.
• Windows and Linux PCs can only send or receive text and URLs.
• Screens will not receive any sound from your computer. This is a limitation of the RFB protocol the app is using.
• Screens Connect requires OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard or later. You will need to create a free Screens ID.
See Screens’ User Guide for details.
What's New in Version 4.4.3
- Fixed Dvorak keyboard
- Stability and general improvements
Reliable and Useful
I use this app often to control my iMac from my iPhone or iPad. It's always reliable and quick to use. It even works when the macOS to macOS iCloud screen sharing fails for unknown reasons.
Tells me to reboot router - when I'm 600miles away!
Apparently it's my routers fault and to fix it I need to drive 600miles back to my house to reboot it and then I can have REMOTE access!
You can't make this stuff up.
Everyone else is recommending Jump Desktop, maybe I should try that.
Sooooo Sloooooow tooooooo Cooooonnnneeeeeeeccctttttt
I have both Screens 4 and Screens 2 on my iPad.
In Screens 2 I can get a connection to my Mac Mini, just across the room from me, in about three seconds from the time I hit the connect icon until I am able to use the screen. Screen updates are very snappy.
On Screens 4 I feel like I am doing things over dial-up - I am not exaggerating. I see "connecting" for 15 seconds, "authenticating" for three more seconds, and "Downloading" for another nine seconds before I get an image of the screen (27 seconds total). THEN I can start using the screen. Except I cannot really use it because when I click something it will take anywhere from five to 30 seconds to update the screen - even for just a menu to appear. For example, I just clicked the App Store icon; I could see the computer monitor showing the App Store starting but my iPad display did not show that for another six seconds. Then, I used Command-Q to quit. Once again the computer monitor showed an immediate "quit" of the App Store but Screens took 23 seconds to BEGIN to show the App Store window closing and FIVE seconds for the whole window to go away (28 seconds total). Are you KIDDING me?! It is actually faster to disconnect and then reconnect than it is to wait on the screen to update.
The only reason that I gave Screens 4 a second star is because I like EVERYTHING else about the app. Unfortunately, the slowness makes it pretty much unusable.
I like that the different connection settings that I have will transfer and update across iCloud so they also work on my iPhone.
I like the groups for the connections.
I really like the customizable, swipeable "extra" keys (e.g. Command, Option, arrows).
I like pretty much everything about Screens 4 except the speed problems. But taking 27 seconds to bring up the first image of the screen is ridiculous. And then to have to wait 28 seconds for a screen update just to see that a window has closed? Back to Screens 2 or over to VNC Viewer to get actual work done.
