Fun and frustrating

This game is pretty fun and worth the dollar. It's not really a crossword game, but I like the concept of it. It still has issues though which I find very frustrating. And you'll also eventually have to pay $1 for new maps after a week or so of playing when you hit a wall and run out of puzzles. I don't like that. I'd rather pay $5 for an app than to have the pay to play model.

The concept is that you are given "clues" to try to put together the letters to form the words and then connect them in a crossword format.

My big issue is when the puzzle "hint" is just a single letter. That's not a hint but more like a slap in the face. Then you're left with a bunch of floating letters staring at you for who knows how long. The only way to piece a word together is by luck pretty much. How is "B" a hint. It lets you know it is a 6 letter word for example, but that's it. Could be a thousand words.

And as others have said, if you can't solve the puzzle you can't advance to the next round. You can spend coins to unlock the "hints" or words, but if you don't wanna blow through coins or buy them, you can be stuck for a very long time. Some puzzles make zero sense, and you'll be stuck or forced to spend coins which is what they want you to do.

There's also a ton of $1 puzzle packs to buy. I have been playing for a week and haven't had to buy any. But I suppose if you get stuck you could go that and play all the free levels first.

Great game, but it drains the battery! :(

Bonza is certainly a great game and is pretty addictive. Some of the clues are not easy and require a lot of thought. But, it’s satisfying when the pieces fall into place. I can actually go through quite a few puzzles at one sitting so I’ve actually paid for additional puzzles :)

That said, I have some concerns:

1. The app really drains my battery. I’m not sure why but it takes up more juice than other apps which is annoying. Perhaps it’s something which the developers can look into and fix going forward.

2. Some of the clues are quite difficult. And, it’s frustrating when the words they want us to guess are actually a combination of 2 or more words. It therefore becomes a painful process of trying to figure out these answers and a lot of guesswork is required.

3. You can’t progress to another puzzle until you’ve finished the one you’re working on (except for puzzles in a different category, e.g. puzzle of the day). This is annoying when you’re stuck. It’s all the more irritating when you’ve paid for the full set of puzzles so accessing the others should be made available.

Other than that, I applaud the developers. This is quite an ingenious puzzle game and like I mentioned, it’s quite addictive. I hope they come up with more puzzles (be gentle, please) in the future :)

Best Crossword app I've found

That being said, there are some annoying things about the game. The next puzzle in the series remains locked until you have completed the current puzzle. Sometimes I like to start a puzzle and go back to it. I don't like the forced progression. Also, I don't like the "mystery clues" where the letters of the clue are blocked out and you have to pay to see the clue. I'm not a serious puzzler, I'm just trying to pass the time while waiting at the doctor's office, etc. Some of the puzzles are repeated even when you have paid for them and some of them don't make any sense. Also, a lot of the puzzles contain an answer that fits the clue (sort of) but doesn't fit with the rest of the answers.

But, the interface is great. There are tons of puzzles to choose from and it isn't expensive. Plus there is always a free daily puzzle. It's a lot easier to carry around than a crossword puzzle book and you get more bang for your buck.

I decided to delete this app. There was one puzzle that did it called "Australian Lingo". It was so big and so messy that I actually bought coins to solve it just to make it go away. There is no way to skip a puzzle and some of the puzzles won't fit on the screen, which makes it impossible to organize the pieces. I wound up really hating this game.
