"Perhaps iOS isn't the first platform you'd think of when looking for an RPG, but Shadowrun Returns might change that. Kickstarted by fans of the SNES classic, it blends character customization, an engaging story line, great design, and a solid tactical-combat system with great aplomb." - The Verge
“Shadowrun Returns drops players headfirst into this richly realized fiction, combining classic role-playing storytelling with modern tactical battles . . . running the shadows has never been more fun.” - 8.5/10 – Game Informer
MAN MEETS MAGIC & MACHINE. The year is 2054. Magic has returned to the world, awakening powerful creatures of myth and legend. Technology merges with flesh and consciousness. Elves, trolls, orks, and dwarves walk among us, while ruthless corporations bleed the world dry. You are a shadowrunner - a mercenary living on the fringes of society, in the shadows of massive corporate arcologies, surviving day-by-day on skill and instinct alone. When the powerful or the desperate need a job done, you get it done... by any means necessary.
The unique cyberpunk-meets-fantasy world of Shadowrun has gained a huge cult following since its creation nearly 25 years ago. Now, creator Jordan Weisman returns to the world of Shadowrun, modernizing this classic game setting as a single player, turn-based tactical RPG.
- The complete Shadowrun Returns campaign (12+ hours of gameplay) now optimized for touchscreen input
- Explore a grim cyberpunk future where magic and technology rule the streets
- Make every action count in gripping, turn-based tactical combat
- Create and customize your character from one of six unique archetypes
- Over 350 different weapons, spells and abilities: sling fireballs, kneecap enemies with your shotgun, or roundhouse kick them in the face!

* Decreased memory usage & increased stability.
I loved the idea.
I'm a huge shadowrun fan. Have been for years. This would be great if it ran. I get a few min into the Redmond barrens and get kicked out every time. I've reloaded it 4 times and every time I get kicked at a different point. Looks good. Great idea. Opens as a bad execution. No ambient music and all other sounds are very quiet. I know this is day one so I may play it after I see an update but with the 10$ I just paid and the super long wait for it already I hope to not wait long. For now the game is ruined on me. I will try and update my review after some changes are made.
I thought with this update that it would fix all my woes. No dice though. Music played for a little while and then stopped and I still get kicked out every time it's important. I've created a second character and it hasn't changed a thing. I think I'm done waiting.
Yet another update and again still doesn't work. I now have ambient sound so it's a step in the right direction. I am still stuck in two game saves. And I also have an iPad 2 fully updated. We waited a long time for this update and still it doesn't work. I think I'm chalking this one up to a loss. At least I still have table top shadowrun. Table top has never failed me.
Great way to experience Shadowrun
Really enjoyed it after character had gained enough Karma to be interesting.
Played on both iPad 2 and then Air with very few problems.
If you are new to SR4 then this would be a great way to see how the mechanics work and try different character types before delving into that paper campaign.
Overall the game is very linear. Dialogue choices have little to no impact on the events from what I can tell. Biggest choices are around Karma spending and types of toons to take on your crews.
Only complaint was the statistics used during fights. Something definitely wrong when the demons release about 30% of the time even though escape chance is <10%.
And at one point I started writing down the hits and misses and stopped when the probability dropped below 1% ... Meaning that this sequence of misses should only happen in 100 tries through the same 20+ shots.
But still fun ;)
Updates Fix Crashes
I had written up a complete, 2-star review of this game, based on crashes I was experiencing. The game crashed a handful of times before I'd even managed to get through the character generation! I could also not get into even the first scene of the game, because it would crash on loading, so I could never start to actually play.
For reference, I have an iPad 2 and was running iOS 7.0.3.
Just as I was about to submit it, I thought that perhaps running that last update to iOS 7.0.4 would help some. So I exited out of the written review and ran the update. Guess what? That's right, I've been playing the game for over an hour now without any crashes! So yeah, crank this puppy back up to 5 stars! Awesome game! I'm just hoping we can get the new module, Dragonfall after it releases as well!
Good job, Harebrained!
