What's New in Version 1.4.1
This release fixes a bug that prevented the app from loading on certain devices.
The good and the bad
Our cruise on the Magic consisted of 10 extended family members who wanted to be able to find each other regularly. It didn't happen.
Messages would sometimes be hours between writing and delivery. My sister consistently had trouble connecting to the wifi and my nephew kept getting kicked off it for no reason. It also did not alert you when you had a message, no ping, no vibration. Not even when you had the app open in your hand! You had to be looking at the app to know something came in. So obviously we were disappointed in the texting feature. The ships have rather clunky phones in the room they suggest you use for staying in touch on board- I guess it's an alternative, but not as practical.
The rest of the app is brilliant! It gives you the schedule for all activities for the entire cruise and it lets you highlight activities so you can easily see the ones that interested you. Plus each activity links to a map showing you where on the ship that activity occurs. It also gives you menus at all the restaurants so you can think about what you want to eat, or pick where to go for breakfast and lunch.
They do recommend you turn off your wifi and the app once a day to refresh both and that did help it run better, but still, unless the programmers get a better handle on the network or the texting issues, rely on the app for information, but not texting.
Good app need new additions
App takes care of no signal problem by letting you text on Disney app.. Has a long way to go..
Would have been better if wifi calling is allowed on Disney network (benefits multi family cruise visits).. Having electronic room key using phone would be nice to have/ future addition.. Online billing would be an excellent addition and will avoid guest service visits..perhaps a guest services app would be an excellent addition.. Feature to view restaurant food menu and order via app will be a pretty good time saving for guests.. Disney should consider showing ship speed, location, outside weather, deck weather, wind speed and other details similar to airlines to assist guests with their dressing... There should be a place to rate the shows on app..and have guests select a show based on ratings.. And let us set reminders for show times.. App should also include ship structural overview.. It should show features available on each deck.. Eg., theatres on 4th floor, top deck 11th floor food, drink and pool services etc..
Not so helpful
The times were way off for the activities and character meets and made it super confusing. I went through the first day and favorited things and events I wanted to do. When I got my paper navigator each night it didn't match at all. Went back to the app and it still told me something different during the days. Then I kept getting reminders which would have been nice but of course they were off so I held tight to my paper schedule which was spot on.
The messaging was not the greatest either and we would be told we weren't on wifi when we were and then messages would come hours later. The wav phones worked much better and then of course on castaway there was no wifi or ability to communicate. Also there was an offer to receive 50mb of free wifi after signing in the first day before sailing away. But the problem was that the app that was supposed to use the ship wifi without paying needed to be on and then all it did was eat up the free wifi we were supposed to have gotten for things other than the app. So we ended up scrapping the app and just using our cellphones for pictures and games to kill time between activities. Cute but not worth it.
