Lots of fun!
I started playing at my older brother's recommendation and now I'm hooked! I check it every morning while I get ready for the day. I'm an avid player of RTS games, and this game always makes me reminisce of the days of Supreme Commander. I especially like how easy it is to gain gold, diamonds, and resources. The wait times can be a bit annoying, but you can just go do something else while you wait and I often have enough of the (freely obtained) diamonds to skip a lot of the waiting. The graphics are cute, the violence isn't over the top, and I especially like the background music and ocean sounds (very soothing!).
My only complaint is that I've had the app crash on me in the midst of attacking, which causes me to lose not only the attack but also kills all of my troops, which can be very expensive to replace! I also sometimes face connectivity issues when trying to scout enemy bases, although I'm not sure if that's the app or just my own internet connection, although I've never had such problems with any other apps so I'm inclined to think its the app itself. A few minor bugs, but no game ruiners.
Other than those small complaints, it's a very fun game and I can fully enjoy it without paying one penny!
What's the Point of an Experience Level?
This is an okay game, but what I'm finding the most frustrating, is apparently what's bothering a lot of other people as well. Yeah, victory points are all well and good, they let you know that you've beat some people and taken some bases, but when that becomes the basis of the opponent matching algorithm, you're suddenly facing people that have way too much free time and spare cash to blow. Why have an experience level if that plays no part in determining the level of the opponents that you're facing? I've got victory points because every now and again I get an AI that's ranked below me and I can actually beat them, not by beating other players that blow $300 a month on diamond upgrades so they can have their upgrades faster/easier. Base the opponents you see on the experience level, the number you see on the map, not the BS victory points that you can pretty much buy from the store. I know you have to make money, but you're obviously suckering some fools into giving you $300+ a month (as stated in some reviews).
So why not make it easier for those of us that either can't afford, or justify spending that much money on a game?
Best suggestion? Base opponents on experience levels, not victory points. Second to that, separate people that spend money from the causal players that don't.
Pop The Cherry - Fun! Followed by Imbalanced Frustrations
Most recently, my kids challenged me to look at Boom Beach. At first, because I don't play games usually, I downloaded and at first site, second, third...you get my drift I WAS HOOKED! Ive spent over $200 dollars! NEVER in my mind have would I think at spending money like I was in Vegas...but here I am. I loved, love this game, but recently, today - VERY FRUSTRATED, very unaware of the WHOLE games rules or levels. I read a review to find that you have over 50 levels, I guess my level HQ 12 is like rookie status and Im finding I cant understand how to win or destroy other bases with a rating at least the same as me, but FAR stronger and Bigger guns?? Am I doing something wrong here? Is there somewhere to look for answers to possibly continue to enjoy this cool little adventure? Please help? Something in settings maybe a small more detailed outline of building and growing or levels and what is required....DISAPPOINTED today to have spent another $100 on diamonds to see that Im STILL very far behind in the overall game...Now I remember, its just a game and no one is supposed to win - just like everyone gets picked for football team or cheerleading....I would like to enjoy this game for at least another year or so!!
Cherry juice at this moment!
