Customer Reviews

Great concept...Sub-mediocre execution.

To begin I have to agree with other reviewers, this app is less functional than it has been in the past. Though I am unsurprised, as this is consistent with other Microsoft iOS Apps. MS apps for iOS such as RDP, Word, and Excel. Anywho, in this latest version the ability to connect with the Xbox One over the network and perform remote actions via the app is sporadic at best. This is regardless of the Xbox One being On, or in Sleep mode. Needless to say the ability to "Wake on LAN" is broken. This is to say that it does not work even if I manage to get it to remember, or recognize, my Xbox One while on the same network. In most cases after having turned on the Xbox One manually I still have to quit this iOS app, toggle the WiFi off/on in iOS, and relaunch the app. Sometime this has to be repeated multiple times. I've tried soft/hard restarting my iOS device, uninstalling then reinstalling the iOS app, and finally restoring my entire iOS device (it's that annoying). WiFi does not have any other gaming consoles on it, the SSID is not hidden, I even have rules for port forwarding per Microsofts instructions. So, most/all other Xbox One LIVE services are all "functional"...Well connected at any rate. I won't get sidetracked into the latest Dashboard fiasco...

I know the saying....opinions are like...(you know what), everyone has one. With that in mind, Im a Senior Digital Art Director and from a UX perspective its great. I come from a time before the "twitch," explosion and see the value but also the downside. Content is king in my mind and I'd like to see the app feature more problem solving features, i.e. Back to the basics on extra content you get with games that sometimes doesn't work, a clearer main marquee nav and just plain simplicity up front. I understand the concept of translating the game hub to this mobile display but often times it gets convoluted with unnecessary MOBILE material.

And like I said in the beginning, maybe it's just me needing to become more familiar with the overall hub on the console and here. I DO like it, but for, since I work in Mobile first design, Ive experienced some top of line apps. I am truly happy though that a matching app even exists, especially for ease of chatting rather that the console keyboard! Keep up the good work and I know Microsoft strives to stay up to date on best practices:)

Achievement Support is the best!

I Use this app all of the time to check out the achievement completions on my games whether I'm at home or on the go. One nice feature to glance at when on the go, is the ability to see how close your are to receiving an achievement, since it lists the completed percentages for how close you are to unlocking it. This makes it a whole lot easier to plan on which achievements to go for next, when the mood strikes one to go achievement hunting. Playing games on their own merits is what it's about, but if you're a completist like I am, this feature makes it easier to keep track of all your completed & locked achievements. Plus, I enjoy having a record of all the hard work I've put in a worthy game to show friends. I'm loving the evolution of the Xbox One and its features right now. Keep up the good work!
