Customer Reviews

Great, natural opportunities for improvement

For the price, GoodReader is as good as it gets for PDF reading, marking up, and organizing. It has a small learning curve, and functions in smart ways, and handles large PDF files rather well. I am writing a dissertation, and I use it largely as a way to keep annotations of articles and books in a single place. Two suggestions that would improve the app are as follows:
1. It would be nice to have an option to have the summary of annotations open as a different file with the app instead of becoming the body of an email. But having to copy-paste isn't the end of the world. Also, having more control over what meta-data shows up in the summary would be more aesthetically pleasing. Some information such as "Highlight (yellow):" shows up in a summary and looks cluttered for my taste.
2. The highlights of text appear in the summary in the order they were made on the PDF rather than where the text is actually located in the PDF. So, if I highlight some particular sentence in a paragraph and then highlight the one before it, they will be reversed in the summary. This becomes problematic when I'm evaluating an argument.
Still, it's a great app and worth every penny!

Would be 5 star but very irritated

Update: endlessly irritating listening to an MP3 radio show, pausing, then coming back not even 30 second later to unpause and the audio has rewound itself 5 or 10 minutes...

This app does everything GREAT except for one thing, and this is a problem with every single app out there so far that has a built in media player. I get so tired of downloading a 40 minute podcast MP3, getting 20 minutes into it, then pausing and coming back to it after an hour and then the app resumes the file at the 3 minute mark or something. Why can't anyone get this resume thing right? All I want it to do is resume the audio file exactly where I left off. I've tested over 20 apps out there that have built in media players and they ALL have this problem so I'm guessing it is an issue with the app dev kit or something. Will there ever, ever be an app that can solve this issue? Maybe in a few more years.. It still gets my 5 stars because it does so much and does it very well. The browser capabilities (such as remembering passwords, easier navigation and downloading files) need a little work as well but in due time.

A requirement for any serious iOS user

If you are using your iPhone for business applications and you don't have this app then apparently you slept through your iOS productivity 101 class. When it comes to real work you will find yourself spending 25 to 50% of your time in this application (esp because of PDF capabilities) making it well worth the investment.

A) Swiss Army knife of file viewers: it can recognize and preview all your usual file types without any app switching (even has document tabs), and can play back virtually all media files natively.

B) Ultimate PDF reader/editor: allows powerful searching, full-featured annotations (hugely important), text reflow, document/page merging, deletion, manipulation, etc.

C) Completely unrivaled file manager for iOS: your filesystem away from home. You can really *sync*!! your project files from any major cloud service or WebDAV server {not just download or refresh them} into a single local file hierarchy which is easily managed. You get many features of a desktop file explorer like file previews, batch/bulk moving, and zip/unzip. Even use it as a download manager for saving large web files.

D) This app is absolutely rock solid. It pretty much never crashes, which is absolutely incredible considering all the things that I can do at once/in the background.

Buy your copy now and pretend like you had it the whole time so the cool kids will make fun of you :-)
