Notebooks 8

By Alfons Schmid

This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices.

Description

Notebooks provides you with convenient ways to quickly write down notes or carefully create beautiful documents, store and organize files, and manage tasks and projects. It converts documents to PDF or produces eBooks with just a few taps, and even offers an optional, full featured PDF Reader. If you are into Markdown, Notebooks is as well.
So if you want to manage all your documents, writings, notes, tasks and files in one app, Notebooks is exactly what you are looking for.

What you might be able do in a handful of unrelated apps, or what you can try to achieve in a collection of paper based notebooks, you can easily do in Notebooks, which fuses the power of multiple apps. This is what it combines:

• Text Editor and Note Taker
• Word Processor
• Markdown Composer
• HTML to Markdown Converter (Markdownify)
• Task Manager and Reminder
• File Storage and Organizer
• Voice Recorder
• Clipboard Manager
• PDF Converter
• PDF Reader (in app purchase)
• eBook Creator

Its robust Dropbox and WebDAV synchronization options make it easy to share your collections of documents not only across multiple iOS devices, but also with your Mac or PC. Dedicated desktop versions of Notebooks can seamlessly pick up your work exactly where you left it on your iPhone or iPad.

What Users Say

"Notebooks is my workhorse. I use it every day and all day to manage all my business and personal stuff. It has replaced my daybook and project notebooks entirely - and done so with efficiency and style. It's still the best!"

“Notebooks is a wonderful App, which is so much better than the dozen other note apps I tried. It is sophisticated, in an unassuming way, so that you find yourself greatly rewarded and being productive without sacrificing time/effort to the App. I cannot tell you how much productivity I have gained. I am having a huge amount of fun, I use it constantly, more than the phone on my iPhone in fact."

“You are GTD in every way that makes it efficient and makes me efficient.”

Some More Detail

- Notebooks allows you to conveniently write, capture and organize your ideas, notes, reminders, journals, diaries or details of life that you want to keep close at hand. If you need to take an important note, or search for one, you'll always have the ultimate notebook at your fingertips.

- Notebooks stores and displays almost any document you want to carry with you: text and HTML, PDF, MS Office or iWork documents, web pages, photos, videos, music and even your Palm memos. Everything you would usually print out and file you can put directly into Notebooks, without adding bulk.

- Notebooks also keeps your task lists and lets you tick off your to-dos as you complete them. You can divide your projects into nested sub projects, which makes them easier to handle, and with Notebooks' links you can cross-reference to documents which may be stored elsewhere in Notebooks. When a task reaches its due date, Notebooks' badge on the home screen reminds you of pending business, and an optional acoustic alert tries to draw your attention.

- Notebooks provides tools to further process your documents; you can convert them to PDF or turn them into eBooks, but you can also merge multiple documents into one, or split meeting minutes into separate tasks and route them directly into your inbox.

Whether you want to draft a business presentation, type a chapter of your short-story, save web pages to read later, write an entry in your diary or journal, tick off your tasks, or just capture notes and ideas on the go, you need to have Notebooks today.

Limited editor, but gets job done

I had been rating this App a “5”. However, despite the fact that it gets regular updates, the long-promised Search and Replace is missing and seriously limits this otherwise great App.

I like how it creates e-books (EPUB): you can use your own style sheets and easily switch between them; it automatically creates the Table of Contents; it can generate an e-book for just 1 Chapter, or just as easily the whole book. I like using e-books for notes when I give presentations. The lack of Search and Replace is puzzling.

Wow! Love this app!

Wow! Love this app! This is the app I have been looking for to keep ALL my notes in! Have been aggressively looking for an app that would do what this app does for a few years now. I have tried to push all limits in my testing and not yet disappointed. I’ve imagined all scenarios I might have need of and it had passed all my tests in SPADES! I’m a pharmacist and there are a million things I have to keep up with, from computer and insurance tricks to therapeutic to regulatory to policies and procedures and on and on, on top of my personal life and interests. Company I work for keeps wiping out critical notes I have made on their computer, so I needed something powerful, portable, secure and something that would backup to a cloud. (And I *HATE* keeping up with paper notes with all that clutter!) I can make folders within folders within more folders. I can search. I can password protect (and I LOVE the unique way they handle that in this app!). I can change the font and it’s size plus make it “read only” and switch it to editable again in a flash. I can take screen shots of the computer screen and put in a file for a “how to” tutorial, or take a pic of an important memo, title it and file it according to MY logic to retrieve at any time. Those critical notes to perform tasks that you only need to do on rare occasions that are complex and there’s NO WAY you’re gonna remember all those steps a year later! Wow! Finally! I found the ultimate app for my biggest needs that no one else can wipe out and I can have in my pocket at all times! Thanks, guys!

I have to say something about it! (Main neat features listed)

I like to play/ around Apps. I think this should be the best notes app among all!
I’ve spent more than 3 weeks trying to download almost all the best iOS notes apps on the market, and tested all of them in almost all the details including Evernote, Bear, Noteswiter+, Notesplus, Good Notes, Noteshelf, Nebo, Noteflow, Scrivener, 1writer and so on, but this one is the final!

This is plain/a little serious looking app with a ton of useful and functional yet appealing features. The good part of this app, I can’t name them all here for the space & time reason. They have a handbook that could take you a few days to study.

The main neat features I would like to point out:

Notes taking format HTML: HTML didn’t sound right to me for notes format at the beginning until I found a lot of CSS templates on “Code pen” website, and it opened a new world to all the neat designed and functional stylish notes taking templates/themes. Eg. A CSS sticky note page could be very useful and handy in some of your books/folders, anything that you could see from a webpage or even you’ve never seen it before.. You can also create your own template/theme.

Open webpages inside your notebook as a browser since they support HTML format of documents. Just type a link in your html notes and you can click it to go to that website inside the app in the same document or you can save all the webpages as bookmarks in one html file or multiple and open in a side-by-side window to use as a reference. Eg. I use Google webpage as a resource search page inside books.

Unlimted nested books(folders): Drag and drop among them all. Very easy to organize.

“Go to …” menu: For quick access to the recent accessed files or any other files.

Support importing a ton of different formats including basic MS office, iWork, PDF etc. The ones that can be open and edit that I’ve tried: HTML, TXT, Markdown, Sketch, Photo/Movie, Voice memos… Convert text based files in between easily. Check their descriptions on supported files. You can annotate on other files that cannot be edit directly but supported to view.

Embeded task features: Use it just like another task app but very easy to convert from any of your notes into tasks or even extract selected part or even prefix as a task. Have 5 states, can set due dates, timers, repeat.. Has a calendar view as well.

Archived/Compress feature: Can compress/zip and unzip easily and share easily.

Compile books: Can compile a whole book into one file(as a copy).

Integrated to other tasks apps like 2Do, things, OmniFocus, Todoist, Firetask…: You can send notes/tasks directly to them through an action.

Create eBooks(Not for viewing).

Links of one doc used to be inserted into other documents or apps that supports cross-platform links like 2Do, Evernote, Bear.. Or even embed the files from one to another like to put one pdf file inside a html etc.

Open in../Share or email to share. 5 ways to sync/export including Dropbox, iTunes, WiFi, SyncDoc, WebNav.

Protect file with password/Fingerprint(in supported devices)

Context feature: Works as tags.

Smart books like Recent items,Due tasks, some hidden smart books like NBResources for backgrounds and CSS styles…

There are more to talk about in the app, a lot more details in this app like choosing/making your own “selected key”/custom keys for quick use, say you can create “<…>” or “…”as a shortcut key with “…” in between to insert cursor; Color labeled books/files; Custom backgound, text color; A lot of Markdown settings…

With so many features in this app, I think I probably only need this one for almost all the daily tasks, documents, notes works.. And I was surprised that it works pretty stably with me playing heavily on it! Occasionally crashes when I work with too many actions too fast. But overall, it works very fine and I would highly recommend it to everyone especially the people who have a lot of tasks or files/documents to deal with everyday! It can definitely replace Evernote in my opinion.

I’ve only used it for a short period of time, but I’ll keep test on it to find out more later.
