One of the best, on the tipping point of being a legend
I use Gadget on my iPhone 6 Plus. It's great, but it can really be so much more. Bilbao can potentially do some of the things that made the MPC such a joy to use. Y'all just need to make one set of controls for the knobs. As it is now, each pad has five knobs each that need midi knobs. What midi controller has 5x16 knobs? Maybe there's something I'm missing here, but if the knobs on Bilbao were set to a single set of knobs, one could quickly chop a sample onto the pads, and fine-tune sample start, sample length, attack, fade, and pitch. Just by making a single set of controls that can be mapped to a midi controlller's knobs. There's many kinds of controllers, yes, but so many of them have a grouping of knobs, usually 8. Moreover, if a key lock were added, one could also timestretch!!!! I shall keep posting about this everywhere I can. It's 2017. Cheers.
Needs to launch clips with ableton like flexibility
To be fair, I don't want to dismay anybody from buying this app. It is the closest thing you will get to working with a full blown synth studio on an iPad. The synth selection alone makes this a worthy purchase.
The reason I didn't give it a full five star rating was because I was expecting a more flexible clip-launching function where you could mix and match the loops you recorded like you can in Ableton Live, or the newest version of GarageBand.
Fellow customer, if you have no idea what I'm talking about, or don't care about Ableton-like clip-launching; go ahead and pretend I gave this a five star rating. This app is worth it.
The good & bad
Nice little app for getting tracks started. Really easy to use. Great for beginning synth/midi player. Fun!
Now the nit picking stuff:
-I hate that I have to scroll to see almost every note I play in the editor.
-If you have an ancient iPad like mine you only get 3-4 tracks with effects before clipping
-This leads to other problems because there's no undo/back step button
-you'll easily spend 2-3 times the purchase price on in-app purcha$e$. Get ready
-inter app connectivity is a little janky, but getting better with updates
-audio quality (16 bit) is not high enough for use with DAWs such as Logic Pro..... Seriously? This was the problem with Korg stuff in the 1990s! :/
All in all, I'm not disappointed with the purchase. The app could use some polishing, but despite the flipping back-and-forth between screens, it is still really easy to use. You can bone-out some dope beats pretty quickly. It's just that when I sink a $100 in an app, I expect perfection... And it's not quite there yet.
