Wayward Souls is an action-adventure game built for quick playthroughs and massive amounts of replay value. It was inspired by Spelunky, Secret of Mana, and our previous game, Mage Gauntlet.
Procedurally generated random levels mean that every time you play the game, it's a different experience. Control one of six characters, all with their own unique playstyles, abilities, and equipment. Explore and fight for survival, in combat where your tactics, positioning, and timing matter.
- Fancy control scheme with no virtual buttons or sticks to fumble over.
- Unlock new areas, for increasingly punishing difficulty.
- 13 area types, all with different monsters, potential traps, and rare encounters.
- Each character can find equipment combinations that change their gameplay.
- Victory is based on your increasing skill as a player, not solely on grinding.
- No IAP ever, even for the hats. All content updates will be free for our fans.
- Unprecedented scope and variety for an action-adventure game on iOS, maybe anywhere.
Third update is being planned! More dungeon modes, more achievements, and some requested features!

What's New in Version 1.26
- iOS 8 crashing bugs when clearing a dungeon fixed.
- New achievements added.
- The Prologue tutorial level will no longer play every time the app is restarted. You can still replay the tutorial via the Extras menu.
Wayward Souls is easily one of my favorite apps, and was definitely one of my best purchases on the AppStore! Mage Gauntlet was fun, but this offers a bit more variety with the various forges, characters, etc.
I'm just hoping they add the Paladin soon, and add the ability to rotate/change the orientation of the screen, as it can be hard to play with headphones on an iPhone 5. The controls are not really an issue at all, and certainly get the job done. Also endless does seem to crash most of the time when it ends, which seems to result in a loss of gold and such, so that's certainly an issue...
I hope to see the game continue to grow, and to learn more of the backstory behind the game!
My Favorite Game
The game comes off as highly polished and the quality is superb. The gameplay is rewarding and challenging, but not discouraging. The controls are fluid and nearly invisible if you want them to be. The pixel art is amazing and the animations are just as good. The story is different for each character and good enough to give the events significance but does not take up a lot of screen time, actually, hardly any as all. The main focus is on the gameplay, which is randomly generated each play through, but always balanced so that you never feel compelled to give up for a new map generation. This is one of the only games I play on ios.
Difficult but rewarding
Took a while to get used to the controls, and the characters, but after hours of play, not only have I gotten better, but I am also still enjoying it just as much as when I started. The random levels are great, and there are lots of hidden special areas that make subsequent playthroughs still feel fresh, much like Diablo. The hardest thing for me to get used to was the lack of loot. There are lots of boxes, junk, etc in the rooms but there is no need to check every corner and smash every box. Instead, the game keeps things fast paced, encouraging you to move forward.
