It's good!

I've been looking at Sling since it came out in 2015, but was on a two year with a cable company. The cable rates were already high at $146, then jumped to a crazy high $180, then a psycho high $234. I talked to some friends who had and knew people going through the same hikes--if this continues nobody's going to be on cable in five years. I got Sling and tested it on five different devices (and up to four simultaneously with the "Blue" package. It works pretty well. I tested it on WiFi, LTE, and 3G under multiple conditions on an iPhone,iPad,Mac,and a Windows 10 PC. I also tested it with a Chromecast. local machine operation works pretty good, video gracefully degrades and improves with irregular signal strength and network bandwidth. The client you use seems to be written in JavaScript and is the same for all platforms. It's basically cable anywhere for your PC and tablet/phone for much less money. Blue plan allows up to for devices simultaneously, and works very well. Chromecast is great when it works, but has occasional hiccups typical of all the Chromecast apps. Generally fantastic.

It could be great if it worked all the time...

Update June 2017: The new versions are a bit better, I don't see the recycling of the picture happen as often, but there is a glitch that remains and is very frustrating. Every time there is a Harry Potter marathon on FreeForm, the streaming stutters, almost as if someone is hitting the revers button. The picture freezes and it take a few moment to be back in sync with the dialog I can still hear. Ive noticed this often happens toward the end of the weekend or even a few times I haven't even been able to watch it anymore and FreeForm commercials play in a loop. I'm not certain if this is SlingTV or FreeForm, but it is ALWAYS during HP weekends and one or all of these issues happens every single time.

I have tried this app via Chromcast and the brand new version of FireTV Stick as of Oct 2016.

On Chromecast the quality of the picture is really bad, always going in and out of clear to pixelated picture. It almost always seemed to do some catch up/thinking at the end of each episode watched.

On FireTV Stick, it is constantly stopping its streaming in the middle of episodes even if the picture doesn't go in and out of focus like on Chrome. I don't understand why it just stops streaming, sometimes after like 10 minutes and other times it's longer. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason and doesn't seem to be an issue with settings of the Kindle device.

If I'm paying even the $20/month I am wanting a bit better service.

Great App; Needs Work; Suggestions For Improving

When I first heard of Sling, I thought this was a great idea. I could access the cable channels I enjoyed watching without the heavy financial burden of paying a monthly cable bill. Cable comes with so many unwatchable channels, it was nice to see this come to life. So, here are some pros and cons:

Pros
-watch live TV of any featured channel
-search any show and favorite it so it's easier to find
-On Demand feature so I can watch a show I missed
-channels I never had access to are now available

Cons
-On Demand feature still plays commercials
-Bugs cause app to either crash or lose my spot in a show I was watching, causing me to start from the beginning
-Because of said bugs, watching from the beginning forces me to watch said show with commercials and no possible way of skipping ahead to the spot where I remember being in the show.
-On Demand feature only allows a couple episodes of a show to be watched.

I would like to see some of these cons addressed and fixed, seeing as it's a service I'm paying for monthly. I think On Demand should be commercial free, all episodes from a season should be available for viewing as they air or just after they air, up until maybe a month after the season has ended. On Demand should have a skip button to allow you to either skip the ads or fast forward to the spot where you were, in the event your place wasn't saved after closing out of the app.
