Fabric is a personal journal that catalogs your experiences and interactions.

Fabric automatically creates a timeline of events in your life by using your phone's location features, accelerometer and photos. It can identify visits to publicly listed places (provided by Foursquare) or private places you add.

You can then add photos and memorable quotes, record the people (or pets) who were there, so you never forget the things you want to remember.

You can also automatically import posts you've made to Facebook and Instagram to see where and with whom you spend your time.

Fabric uses all this context to create interesting aggregate visualizations of your experiences that include, for instance, the cities or restaurants you’ve been to.

Now Fabric also allows you to journal collaboratively. This means you can share photos everyone took at an event together.

Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. Fabric tries hard to optimize its battery consumption by turning off GPS use when you aren't moving.

Pointless battery drainer

Can’t read the map, the can’t recognize when I’m home GPS is off. Waste of good battery.

Slow, broken, and not useful

When the map does load, it's unclear what you're looking at. There are photos overlaid, but it's unclear why the photos that appear are there. It's clear that they use the geo data, but if you've saved a photo someone sent to you, it appears on the map as if you were the one who took it. Plus, the images appear as bubbles, but you can't tap on them to see the detail, so it had better show enough detail within the crop to be meaningful, otherwise it's a meaningless circle. You can swipe up and down to see a new slice of time (I think) but there's no way to tell how much time passes as you swipe. All in all, very unclear what this does, the UI is incredibly non-obvious, and for the parts that do seem obvious, they are either really slow or broken. This is really version 2?

Life chronicling simplified!

Provides great visuals chronicling past trips and journeys. I'd imagine this will be incredibly powerful to replay and reminisce about the past. These visuals would give you a blow-by-blow breakdown of that road trip you took with your college friends in senior year, or exactly how you rushed back to make your first date on time with your future wife years after the fact. The photo integrations are a nice touch too. There is some room for additional features here but all in all, this is a slick app for journaling your life.
